Marnie, Marnie, Marnie!
You're so sad, I'm so glad. I feel safer this morning than yesterday. I could watch the burning towers from my living room windows, and now I know my main man will be doing his best to keep those bad guys out of my backyard. On top of that, a huge tax cut I get to keep for a little while more.

I and half America are with you. Hopefully, our unity will not diminish. We must stay strong, active and vigilent. We must continue to stand up for what we believe in. It is now up to us to protect the half of America that Bush does not care about.

Sheri, Sheri, Sheri! You're so glad, I'm very mad. Why not show your "main man" how to behave like a true Christian? Give your tax cut to someone who needs it . . .
How could anyone possibly feel SAFER with Dubya leading this country? I can't even begin to comprehend that mindset.
A very sad day indeed.

I, as a Canadian studying in the US, am trying to understand how Bush and the Republicans are more representative of "moral values," and concern for these values.
Just to let people who think emigrating to Canada is the answer, my brother in Canada wrote to me to say he was extremely pleased with the Bush win. Ahh, the grass is always greener.

Don't give up hope! I, too, am depressed today, but tomorrow I'm going to continue to work for a healthy America.

HA HA! Thanks for the endorsement, Marnie! I'll be running on a platform based on the ideals of knitters everywhere. No war until I finish just one more row, tax cuts will be given in the form of alpaca, and although it's a painful choice that no one ever wants to make, acrylic yarn is sometimes the only option and that right will be protected.
Seriously, someday this administration will all make a fantastic historical documentary. I have a feeling that scandals will be breaking left and right by people who were going to keep their traps shut assuming Bush would be out and his damage would be done. But facing four more years, they may feel compelled to spill the beans. Fasten your
seat belts, kids, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Wasn't it Abe Lincoln who observed "A house divided cannot stand." I'm disgusted by a system that speaks to fear and ignorance.
People have to do so much more than just show up when it comes to a vote. They have to educate themselves. They have to understand they vote every day, you vote when you drive an SUV, you vote when you show up at the cubicle working for a company that you don't agree with, you vote when you shop at Walmart or Barnes and Noble instead of an independent pharmacy or independent bookseller.
We're all culpible; we should all think more globally and responsibly.

I too am blown away by the results. I cannot fathom my fellow citizens believing in that man. Just unreal.
I have no words of comfort other than that I am with you sister.

Your so glad and feel so safe? Well Osama Bin Laden is still out there and we are mucking around in Iraq. The borders of this country are largely unprotected and our military is spread so thin we probably couldn't defend ourselves from an attack. People like you scare me.

I should stay out of this, I know I'll be hated, but I'm with Sherri. I am relieved that Bush won. Do you know anyone in the military? I do, some of my best friends are in Iraq, and they are happy to be there, this is what they are trained for, this is what they do, and despite what the media shows on the evening news the overwhelming majority of the Iraqi population is joyous at their freedom. Most of the insurgents are people who had power under Hussein and are now resisting the change to the priveges they enjoyed under Hussein. Achieving freedom isn't easy, there are growing pains, how long did it take the United States to achieve freedom from England and become a solvent nation with organized laws from border to border. I know some people think we were deliberately misled into going to war, but I don't. I think our leaders did the best they could with the information they had at the time. Hind sight is always twenty twenty. Knowing what we know now we could have prevented 9/11 but it couldn't have been prevented at the time. Hussein may not have possed an immediate threat to our security, but neither did Hitler, does that mean we shouldn't have taken Hitler out of power? I think we did a great thing in Iraq. As far as US security goes, have we had an attack on our soil since we started our war on terror. The thing about preventing attacks is we often don't know what's been prevented because it didn't happen. But I do know that under Clinton our embassys were bombed, we did nothing, our ships were attacked, we did nothing, the trade center was bombed once we did nothing. Under Bush we had 9/11, we reacted and no further attacks have occured on our soil. I feel safer. I too am glad I get to keep my tax break. I'm trying to raise three children on twenty eight thousand dollars a year, don't tell me to give my money to someone who needs it, I need it. If you don't need your tax money please send it to me. I'm sorry people like me scare some of you. I could get on board the platform built on knitting ideals, despite being a Republican I really am a nice person.

Hi Amy,
I don't hate someone that states their opinion even if I don't agree with it; but, I do have problems with a person like Sheri who chooses to express her opinion with very little tact. It is obvious by your presentation that you are a very nice person and if we were to meet, I would love to have civil and intelligent conversation about our difference in opinions.
P.S. Yes, I do know and have friends that are soldiers over there, including one that died 4 months ago. They are good soilders and feel the commitment to their duty, but don't necessairly feel that the situation over there is anything less than a major fu** up.

Marni - you're my hero. You've said it all. I'm almost speechless... well, I guess I'm not:
Amy - I guess I missed the class on the tax-break us $30,000 salary people made. I could have sworn the amount was a tad bit higher...... Also, my baby brother is a US Marine, slated to be sent [again] to the Middle East. Honesly, do I think that my brother is safe there? NO. He's told me first hand about lack of ammo and protective gear [including armored hummers]. So should we get a tax break? Fuck no. That money should go towards protecting our soldiers, providing our children with decent public schooling/education and taking care of our seniors. Then I'll worry about freeing Iraqi's. Maybe I'd feel different if we were in AFGHANISTAN looking for the man who [admittly] attacked our country.
OK - rant over.

Amy,
It is so sad to me that you think you're honestly better off financially with Bush as president. That's been the most amazing thing about all of this: he's been able to convince people to trade healthcare, jobs, raises for teeny tiny tax cuts (well, if you're not super wealthy, that is). The people who make under 200K a year just voted for someone who only cares about those who do. *sigh*
