Talk Back!

Gravatar Marnie, don't do it! Once you step down that dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny!
(I bought a spindle in July last year to "ply up some fine machine knitting yarn." Since then, oh dear.... I now have a wheel and spin up more yarn than I can knit! Pre-drafting is the most important thing in spinning - check it out. The yarnharlot had some info on her blog in ?Feb?March?)

Gravatar You got some great stuff. It did seem to go by very quickly. I got some great Burt's Bees hand care stuff, but I keep forgetting to try it overnight. That's a beautiful drop spindle. Lucky girl

Gravatar My advice? Don't think that yours will be nearly so effortless and easy. My first spinning was really icky... someday my second spinning will be better, but I haven't bothered to pick it back up yet. I think I want a lighter spindle. Mine is like 6 or 7 oz. I want finer yarn than that. That tussah/merino blend is beautiful though!

Gravatar First, get yourself a good beginner spinning book, like Spin It. Second, take an 18" piece of commercial yarn and tie it on to the spindle and just practice getting the feel for it. At first you will make novelty yarn with roving, but then you will have an "aha!" moment and forever be hooked! If you need any help, feel free to email me and I will be glad to be of assistance!
