I like that you are trying something different, and it is lovely, but as far as something to actually wear, I think you would be happier with a regular long sleeve, with a flare as you suggested. At least I would

Hi, I agree with the above comment. I like how your designs are unconventional, but the long dip in the sleeve looks way too costume-y for a wearable design. The regular long sleeve with flare would look great and be the ideal complement for your beautiful creation.

oops- I think I'd prefer a 3/4 sleeve with a flare rather than long sleeve.

I think it's really pretty... although maybe it is a bit costumy... but then again, I think I'd be tempted to make it the way it is.

I love it the way it is. The tip looks sorta long in the middle picture, but maybe it's just the light. Although I must say, it's look great in a bell type sleeve too. I guess my definitive answer is that you're better at this designing thing then me, and if it doesn't feel right to you than maybe you should rethink it. Totally unhelpful huh? lol

I think you can pull off the current sleeve, but most of us wouldn't be able to, so maybe you could offer both in the pattern?

I agree with the first two comments but also wondered why you are adding a sleeve at all. I think it looked great finished at the elbow with the lace pattern.

I love the way the sleeve is now! But if you go for the more regular type, I'd say a 3/4 sleeve like Julie suggested.

I love the sleeve as is! If I were making it for myself, I would make the hangy-down bit a little shorter by maybe 1-2", but I would keep the general shape of it. Commercially, however, you would probably do better with a more traditional sleeve.
Though I must say that I've loved everything of yours that I've seen. ^__^

Rather than say it's costume-y I'd say it's original or unique -- a good thing. The pics are somewhat askew so it's hard for me to say for sure, but from what I see I can honestly say I love them! I think they give the piece a wonderful, almost medieval look.

Well, were it me, I'd turn that section of sleeve around about 180 degrees -- that way you still get the flared effect, but the inside wrist is exposed rather than the outside. I think that'd be very pretty.

I personally love it as is. But then again, I sew costumes for fun and profit. I would make it for myself as is, and wear it in everyday life. But I'm probably more "eclectic" than most. And I can't wait til this one becomes a pattern!

i like the shape of the sleeve, it is very refreshing, but if you want to make it more wearable, maybe you want to shorten the "dip" and maybe ruffled up a little bit? the sleeve does not look out of balance to me, but if you want to widen the elbow lace part to make it look more comfy and roomy (or just eliminate the decrease)? just a thought. sorry i don't mean to make this a long comment.
i love your cardigan regardless.

The only thing that strikes my eye as "costumey" is the length of that cool taper.
I'm digging the angle, but if it was more balanced, say, shorter by half, it might just be the sort of design detail that explodes.... like, you'll see it everywhere from the Gap to the runways.
Which is to say, I vote for a slight modification, not a complete re-think.

i think it is very pretty as is, but the question is whether you you wear it. if it were my sweater, i would tend not to. i agree with the other comments that a 3/4 or full-length sleeve with the flare at the bottom would be pretty for more "everyday" wear.

I would leave the horizontal lace panel but instead of creating the bell in the following section, end the sleeve after the first couple of inches without makeing the dip at all. This cardigan is so gorgeous though. I love watching you work.

Very nice, Marnie!
I really liked the sleeve on the picture, but I am wondering how it will look "in motion".
Maybe it will be better, as suggested by others here, to shorten it.

I love the idea. I'd like to see a slightly shorter "hangy bit," though, just for the sake of function. But as to the costumy comments? Please. It's lovely. I'd knit it and wear it often if you were to offer the pattern.

You look terrific in it -- dramatic pieces look great on you. For us lesser mortals, how about something like this?

They are a-line sleeves, as you suggested, with a slight elongation at the outer cuffs that mimics what you already have, inverted.

I absolutely LOVE it! I didn't know (as this was the first time I have visited your site) that it was your design, and I was instantly scanning for where you got the pattern from. If you sell the pattern, I would totally be interested, just as it is. And as for costumey - well, I would rather call it couture. Excellent job!

I like the sleeve as is, but I agree some people will find it too cotume like. So I would also go with giving the option on the sleeves, with a 3/4 with the lace going around just above a small cuff. Yep, I'm that particular. LOL

I love it as is, but I think that its a matter of functionality. If you can wear a sleeve like that - go for it! If you'd get more use out of it in a less dramatic shape then change it - but write up the pattern both ways because it would be really interesting to see what others choose to do with it!

I like the different sleeve. The only thing I would do is shorten the flare just a bit so it doesn't become obstructive. Otherwise, I think it's a very pretty design!

I remember at one point you mentioned that you rarely wear the things you've knit. This is a lovely cardigan you've got in progress, and I think you should make sure that you'll like it enough to wear it! I think the gentle flair to the wrist is a nice idea. Maybe you could knit and attach that sleeve for the other arm, and that might help you decide?
maybe you'd just want to keep it with two different sleeves and start a new fad!
Either way, great job. I love the colour.

Hi Marnie:
I love the sweater, and I love the sleeve. When I read that you were asking for comments, I thought that I would turn the curved part of the sleeve 180 degrees; however, I now see that Cher already suggested this. No matter what, I would keep the shaped bottom of the sleeve: beautifully dramatic!
Thanks for the Panda fix the other day. Super dog!
