I'm curious about what the actual knitting machine looks like and how it works. Never seen one.

Webs is good at www.yarn.com and I think that huge discount yarn store in NYC that everyone raves about (name excapes me, maybe something like Schoolhouse?) has lots of cone yarn...

Although I'm not a machine knitter, I would say eBay. Whenever I go on there to search for yarn, a bunch of people who sell cones are listed. I bought some mohair from one, a place in Providence, RI, and they were quite nice, and the yarn is good too.
Guys probably think it's cool to see a knitter...they probably think of the whole "kind of girl you could take home to your mother" sort of ideal. I'm anti-social to begin with, so it depends on what kind of vibe I get from people, whether I'll talk to them about knitting or give one word answers, too.

Hi Marnie,
School Products in NYC has a ton of cones for machine knitting and right now they have several interesting yarns on sale. They have a website but they don't have their stock online. You can call them at 1-800-847-4127.

Ha, ha... the Boston T has not changed A BIT, by the way. The sour puss is a needed standby when you're squished next to some super-talkative extreemist of some kind.
Looks like you are enjoying your machine knitting classes! xx

I, too take transit into work. I love it, though, but we do get the occasional crazy!
