If you can design all those amazing sweaters and such you can definitely handle a sock. They're definitely great for knitting on the go. Love the story, that's so crazy. poor guy must have been terrified!

Two things recently converted me from a knitter to a sock knitter:
1) Priscilla Gibson-Roberts' book "Simple Socks: Plain and Fancy"
and
2) using the magic loop technique rather than dpns
PGR's book is fabulous for folks who want to understand how to roll their own as opposed to just follow a pattern.
I never minded dpn's, but the magic loop is so much faster, and even though my sock-in-progress spends a large amount of time being toted around in my briefcase or purse, I have never lost stitches in transport the way I used to with dpns...
The only downside, my new sock-knitting addiction is cutting into my sweater knitting time!

Oh, socks are the perfect bus project! I take public transportation to work and socks are just the best- small and quick and often not too much thought involved. That Koigu is stunning!

In my 15+ years of knitting I never saw the point of socks - until now. For some reason they really are addictive. I second the Priscilla Gibson-Roberts rec - the woman is a genious. Her ethnic sock book is also incredible. If that isn't enough, check out Nancy Bush's books as well. Sock knitting does eat into sweater time, but it's hard to resist nonetheless. I cast off the footies two weeks ago and am already feeling that I need more socks on the needles. It's weird!

I miss living in LA and waking up to helicopters overhead so that you knew something exciting was going on. Then creeping over to the window to peek out and seeing LAPD, guns drawn, inching their way along your alley. I'm not being sarcastic, It really was fun. Probably because nothing bad was actually ever happening. It was just like live Cops.

Hey Marnie - I tried to email you back but your return address is a nospam address so it bounced. I can't remember where I found that banner, but feel free to take it and pass it along/post it, or whatever.
Love the color of that Koigu... is the color true? Is it a dark greenish-gray-brown?

The Koigu looks yummy in the sock photo, and I especially love that color. I haven't knit with this yarn yet but can't wait. I wonder how durable it is, though -- my LYS advised me to stick mostly to an 85/15 wool/nylon blend for most socks. Oh, who cares, though -- the Koigu looks soft as a dream. ;o)
Wow is about all I can say about the arrested guy -- what a story!

Wow, I can only imagine how nervous the guy was! Socks can get a bit addicting, I'm sure you'll create a great looking sock.
