Barbara Walker's books are just wonderful. I love not only the range of stitch patterns she covers but also the details about how each one pulls in or curves or where a specific row will have a higher or lower stitch count. Great choice!

hehe, you are missing the first one that I got. I have a different copy of the first treasury, but I haven't been able to afford the others yet. But they're certainly lovely to have around, even if just for inspiration. I've been looking through then for the past couple of days because I need to work up a proposal for another lace shawl.

i love the treasuries and i find that i can lose hours just thumbing through them. some of the commentary is great too. i've also learned that real-life interpretation of the stitch patterns can look pretty different (in many cases, better imo) so i will often knit a small swatch just to see what it will look like. again, sucking up even more of my knitting time!
btw, i feel sorta ambivalent about the sweater design book too. i think it has good solid information but i don't find myself referring to it as often as i thought i would. i do recall liking the set in sleeve section though.
ps -- nice work staying focussed on those gloves! that's alot of same-yarn-same-pattern knitting!

I own the yellow Barbara Walker book and I *love* it. I want desperately to collect the whole set, as it were.

Great books! I'd also recommend The Art of Fair Isle Knitting: History, Technique, Color and Pattern by Ann Feitelson if you're doing any color design (*cough*), though you may already have some great stuff worked out (*cough*). MH gave it to me lst year as a going away present and I love it.

I have all of those (apparently I felt the need to buy them BEFORE I got the money for designing, thus spending money I should have used for groceries or something) and I love them all, especially the Barbara Walker treasuries. Enjoy!

barbara walker's treasuries are without a doubt the most important books to have on hand when designing. i keep a set at home and a second set at work! they are the bibles!
another good book to have on hand is knitting in the old way.

Yeah, I think I'd go nuts knitting so many of those. And never getting to finish most of them. I never though about it till looking at those pictures, but it's pretty cool that KG is going a little farther with the knitting. The gloves aren't terribly difficult, but more so than most projects they've featured so far.

You know who I like to support, is Powell's Books. It is a large privately owned bookstore in Portland that has a large online catalog, it's at powellsbooks.com It was hilarious visiting Portland because all directions seem to start with "From Powell's ..."

Hi Marnie, I love the BW treasuries. I was very lucky and received them as a Birthday present. No opinion on the sweater design so will be interested to hear yours.
