I found the exact same thing with the crochet stitches. I already owned the Ency then ordered the Harmony crochet guides. Hmmmm, v. interesting. I kept them as well, fellow book whore.

I have one Harmony guide and have made a point not to buy any more of them because so many of their stitches overlap. With one, I'm good, and overlap between them and B. Walker? Reasonable. But from one book in a publisher's series to another? Not right! I'm grateful to the comments on Amazon for pointing it out before I committed myself! Still--they're good patterns . . . you could always gift them to a secret pal.

I have all the Harmony Books and all the BW books. Honestly, it's the Harmony books I go back to time after time. They were my FIRST stitch books though - and I don't really have any others besides that and BW. I would guess they're all pretty much the same after awhile.
When it comes to Aran patterns, I MUCH prefer the Harmony symbols. In fact, I usually convert the BW pattern to Harmony symbols.
Just my two cents. Sorry you're disappointed.

Awwwwww, love the Panda pics. What a cutie! xoxo
Too bad about the duplicate books! But congrats on expanding your stitch library. I don't blame you for keeping them, I'd probably do the same thing! LOL.

You have all the Walker treasuries, right? Because those are the most complete stitch resource guides around. I also recommend browsing upscale used book sellers, if you have any near you. I've found some of the older books (guess they'd be "vintage" right?) have some interesting ideas in them, too.

The duplicate book thing is craziness! But really, Panda makes it all better. She is such an active little schmoo.

It makes it tempting to put a ribbon around one of the books and send it off to your mother for her birthday.

Hmm, I'd suspect some kind of publishing house overlap or something, though I have absolutely no evidence of something like that.
And happy dog pictures are the best, aren't they??

Well, Reader's Digest generally takes other books and condenses them, right? So they probably bought the rights to abridge and publish the Harmony Guides.

True to its name, the Reader's Digest volume you have is an abridged version of the 7 volume Harmony Guide.

I don't have much to offer about the books (although I love that "Crazy Knitting" book in your last post- what a riot!), but what I do know is that Panda is TOO cute!

Love the photos of Panda. . . as for the books, I'd keep them all too, I suppose I can join the ranks of the book whores. Something will always be useful in them. . . one day, I too will stock my library.

Oddly enough, I noticed that about the Harmony/Reader's Digest guides a few nights ago at a bookstore. I also noticed that they both overlap somewhat with the Big Book of Knitting. Primarily I noticed it because of the garish 80s yarn colors on a lot of the swatches!
