Talk Back!

Gravatar Oh my gosh. I love that pattern and can't believe you're going to try it. It really looks like a lot of work but ohhh the pay off! So, would you say the "problem" thus far would be the yarn (I haven't yet tried KSH) or the pattern?

Gravatar It's going to be gorgeous. No one will see the imperfections.

Gravatar The swatch alone is gorgeous, I cant wait to see the finished cardigan

Gravatar The KSH color is gorgeous and that pattern from Vogue will definitely do it justice. Mohair is difficult b/c if you make a mistake, it's a pita to rip. I just finished a scarf out Jo Sharp mohair and while lovely, working on the lace stuff just drove me crazy when I made a mistake. But when it was blocked, it was lovely to me and I was quite happy with it. I made some major mistakes, including decreasing when I had too many stitches left over at the end of the row and later I realized I'd decreased the equivalent of an 11-stitch repeat, but blocking helped to cover up most of that and i think it turned out great. All of that to say, just pay attention and I think you will be fine with the mohair. It just requires more concentration than mindless knitting.

Gravatar I am a KSH addict ... I just love that stuff! Sure I'll keep on stalking your blog on the progress ... that's a pretty pattern.

Gravatar I LOVE me some Bullshit. They have such a great approach to the way they deal with things. Plus, they're funny. The sex episode cracks me up every time!

Gravatar I'm about 5 inches into the first sleeve, I'm doing that first so if I screw up, there's less to rip/trash. I keep thinking I've messed up the matter, as there's interesting zigs and zags whe I hold it up, then I turn it and they go the other way! Tricks of the light, I tell ya. Yours is lovely, good luck!

Gravatar I will watch your progress with anticipation. That is the one thing from ANY Vogue knitting that I've ever been interested in knitting. If it turns out well, then I may actually make it.

Gravatar I am so glad to have a sister in mohair ineptitude. It is hard to continue to call yourself an expert knitter when you can be beaten by a length of fuzzy thread, isn't it? Mohair is my nemesis, moving along at a snail's pace, one step forward, two frogs back. Still, I will prevail, and so will you, damn it! If not, we can always go mountain biking.

Gravatar I absolutley love that stitch patter and the sweater is going to be gorgeous.
If it were me knitting, I'd put in a few stitch markers. That always cures my problems when I'm working a pattern and there is mysteriously too many or too few stitches at the end of a row.

Gravatar I was going to do that sweater...but now I'm a little scared. I have some KSH in such a pretty color...but DUDE. it sounds HARD. maybe a nice stockinette scarf in KSH?

Gravatar Came across your site while reading Glampyre knits. I was thinking of making that sweater from Vogue Knitting too. I just finished River using KSH and it's not the easiest yarn to knit with, so I definitely feel for you. You've inspired me to start knitting my swatch though... Good Luck!

Gravatar I can't speak for any experience with KSH, but that sweater is just breathtaking. And that's why we knit, right? To make beautiful things that we can't get anywhere else. I'll be keeping up with your progress!

Gravatar The swatch alone is gorgeous. As always, I am in awe. Can't wait to watch your progress. Now, you'll just need to find a hat like the model has...

Gravatar I ended up throwing my KSH at the wall and then the half knit ball, it went into stash gulag, never to be seen again. The unused balls? Ok, this sucks. They were brand new, still with wrappers.... I sent them all to my SP6.

That's right. I sent my poor, unsuspecting SP6 a bunch of recalcitrant, unrepentant, bitchy, high maintenance Kid Silk Haze. I know that I'll go to hell for it, but at least it's not in my stash anymore, whining at me. "Oh sure, I'll be easy. You can knit me. I promise. I'll be good. Come on baby, I'll be so good, take me back, please? Please? You know you want me."

Gravatar ohhh, it pains me to hear anyone talk of kidsilk in such wicked ways! i know, i know, it has it's drawbacks - but it's so pretty and warm when finished!

Gravatar That Kidsilk Haze is a bitch isn't it? I read on someone's blog that it's easier to work/rip back if it's frozen. Couldn't hurt to try it right?

Gravatar oh my, that is so unbelievably gorgeous. a) i love purple with a dying passion, and b) that stitch pattern is just so beautiful. and don't worry, no one is going to notice! i hope the rest of it goes a little better than the swatches. if not, perhaps try a little mohair meditation...

oh, and i've heard the BS show is awesome. will have to check it out!

Gravatar It seems with KSH you either love it or hate it. I've never knit with but am curious to see which category I'd fall into. Those that hate it, REALLY hate it and those that love it, REALLY love it (to the point of obsession). It's definitely gorgeous! LOVE that shade of purple.

Gravatar I'm with everyone else - beautiful stitch pattern, beautiful colored yarn. That's definitely not a pattern any ole' knitter could handle, so you should be proud of your work, even if there are little mistakes. We can't see them from here, it just looks great!

Gravatar Beautiful pattern!

One thing I find that helps quite a bit with KidSilk and lace patterns in general is stitch markers. TONS of stitch markers. If you do make a mistake, it'll be obvious immediately and you can tink back just a few stitches for a fix.

Can't wait to see it evolve.

Gravatar oh, man. I've been putting off buying more KSH to finish works in progress, but that swatch...so pretty...I may need to go shopping.

Gravatar It's coming out beautifully - but I really feel your pain with the KSH. I recently tried to swatch for a sweater using this stuff, and it was NOT working out. We're on a break right now... we'll see what happens with that.

Gravatar I had the exact same thoughts when I saw that sweater -- beautiful, great for keeping me warm in the a/c, but no beads. Unfortunately, I fear my mohair ineptitude may be far greater, and I lack patience for very very slow knits... so perhaps I should wait and see how yours goes first. It's lovely so far. Thanks for being the guinea pig!

Gravatar Marnie, you crack me up! I hope MI doesn't do you in. That sweater is going to be ABSOLUTELY breathtaking. (Even more so without a crazy black feathery hat taking over your head.) The beads would've been cool; but be don't want to see you jumping off any bridges, so good call on leaving them out! LOL.

Gravatar it warms my heart to hear that you too are having issues with the KSH. i'm 'attempting' butterfly from rowan mag 33 (i think) and while it is stunning and it will look amazing when (if) finished, I have had HARSH words with it on more than one occasion, frogged it twice already (thank god hadn't done much) and seem to miss and aqquire sts on a regular basis. aye aye aye. yours is looking so much better than mine
