there's some wonky links in dere. RTO was not a fan o' the Pavement tune. Love Bacharach, but what was Isaac Hayes doing to that song!? I'm being all kinds of cranky here. sorry. other than the Hayes, I liked most of it. : D

I fixed the links. Thanks for pointing them out.
What did RTO dislike about the Pavement song? And why didn't you dig Isaac's arrangement of "Walk on By"? It's funky.

I think he didn't like the "whiny, not quite on pitch" part of it. not like he could do any better, but whatevs.
and "funky" and Bacharach do not go together. ;D
wasn't there an SNL skit about that, two guys playing the trumpet and they keep talking about "couldn't we jazz this up a bit?" and Burt's all, "no, we're doing it the Bacharach way!" I can't ever find that stuff online.

The Cure has always been one of my guilty pleasures. Robert Smith was such a doughy freakboy that I wanted to be repelled, but their songs were always so well written and constructed that I couldn't help but overlook some of the smeared lipstick goofiness.
And that guy could whine like a little bitch and you'd still come away from the song feeling good, unlike the twisted angsters polluting the music industry lately.
