This has to be the one of the most vague and pedestrain posts I may have ever read.
You closed by saying: "When we begin to actually treat the online space as a true marketing avenue, and provide customized solutions for our clients and helping them with client acquisition via their own website - our industry wins because our clients win, and the true differentiation between all those 'trees' comes out."
A. Who are "we"? I don't know about the you, but the "industry" has recognized the online space as a true marketing avenue since, uhmm, like 1997. Search has only become an attractive avenue in the past 6 years...because Overture and Google created respective marketplaces for advertisers.
B. You said: "provide customized solutions for our clients and helping them with client acquisition via their own website"...what in the world does this mean?
What are you customizing? From your sentance I'm thinking that you mean you will always help with client acquisition along with whatever else (i.e., "customized")? This is exactly what Treffiletti said made him dizzy at AdTech: fuzzy double-talk like that. Sounds like he may have talked to you there.
C. What industry are you talking about? Search? Interactive? Both? The former as a subset of the latter?
Online marketing, particulalry search, is and always will be inherently tied to conerting/selling something...ultimately. This is a no-brainer.
But you don't provide any examples of your new way of thinking other than what Treffiletti referred to focussing on "text results via the traditional browser interface".
Don't talk about fluff. Write something compelling. What about logo advertising on Google maps? What about helping companies monetize media content by viral 2.0 sites like YouTube, etc. and the like? What about RSS? What about mobile? Please walk the talk and write something compelling. Don't just parrot something you recently read. It debases SEL.

Hey Tyler,
I'll sit down with Mark and we'll look over your comments and see if we can hone the post up a little bit.
I appreciate you spending so much time on the critique - it's much appreciated and will help us improve the overall quality of SEL.
Best Regards,
Garrett
