Gravatar I don't have any specific denominational background or identification. My faith community was a church plant from a Vineyard congregation, but I go to Catholic mass, Episcopalian services, Lutheran, Methodist, you name it. I sometimes have denomination envy for those in strong liturgical churches, but not enough to really want to have a specific denominational identity. It's a fun thing to explore. Thanks for your post Michelle.

Gravatar Thinking similar thoughts about labels. I was thinking along political lines, but it's sort of the same.

Outside the box. I like that!

Gravatar As part of my job I visit a huge range of church services each year.

While there are some things that remain the same, it's amazing the difference between many fellowships within the same denomination.

Within the denomination that I'm part of, you can find those who have the hymn sandwich service through to those swinging from the light shades.

If someone was to put me in a box based on their understanding of my denomination they'd most probably be very wrong indeed.

Gravatar Ah, but if you do happen to find a fellowship of believers who preach and teach what you've personally come to be convicted of yourself by the Word and the Holy Spirit... it's not a box. It might be a "label," which some could misinterpret, but as we each reach out to people in our own areas of service it is good to "come home" to a particular body that suits you well. Even if it is "non-denom" so long as it is doctrinally sound. There is something good about the fellowship of shared beliefs.

Gravatar Good for you. It's high time to move beyond denominations!

And, I too do not do denominations well. I don't feel well represented by any denomination. Guess I'm just too much of a misfit. ;^)

Gravatar Thanks for your comments. I think I'll be more comfortable identifying with a denomination once I've sorted out and confirmed what I believe - but at the moment it seems to be between a number of things. There's one denom that I identify the most with, but also don't agree with some of the things going on. Perhaps one day I'll put myself in a box, but for now it's the unpackaged me.

Gravatar You might never find the "perfect" denomination. I identify strongly with the doctrine of my church, although there are a couple of sub-points I am not personally "convicted" of from the Scriptures. I mean, I see where they get them from, but in a case or two I also see where something else could be equally said. (Not on matters of salvation, etc.)

If you are a thinker at all (which obviously you are then probably no "box" will be a perfect fit, but there are benefits to having a body with whom you can share a lot of faith and on the rest of it, sharpen each other
