I totally agree with that statement, but how did the author know that I wasn't dressed?

That's what I was wondering. Has my webcam been running when I didn't know it?

Hahaha
For a minute there I was seriously worried about a spycam.
It's true - blogs are deliciously biased, but I think he is a crackpot to say:
"in our private feedback loops, never exposed to new arguments, never having to listen to a single word we disagree with"
What on God's green earth makes him think that I watch news or drink in the biases of the media that I don't agree with? It's not like I sit there and force myself to watch. I simply turn off the tele.
Blogs is a huge threat to the establishment of politics.
Just my 0.02 worth.

Couldn't agree more (with the original statement). We do need to at least have an idea of what other people who may not agree with us are saying. You'll be amazed at the number of folks who are really saying the same thing, but somehow end up slandering and fighting each other.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. We have a lot more in common than we think, and it's sad that religion tends to make us want to sing from the same songbook in order to legitimize the ethos and the ethics of the group.
Thanks for those thoughts!

He points out what we do regardless of blogging. Each of us reads things to confirm what we already know. Rarely do seek to understand another's paradigm. Normally life forces me into situations where I have to interact with others who think differently to me. If I had my way I would avoid these people. How many of us 'emerging' people listen to the church we have emerged from? They just don't get it, nothing to tell me, blah, blah. I am grateful for the God who comes to me, for the God whose actions always suprise me, for the God who draws me to new-ness. The one who does what I cannot (will not).

ok, I'm feelin this... and I do like to read thoughts and perspecitives outside of my "stated purpose," yet honestly, I'm not sure if I want to link to them... but you've planted the seed. : D

Clint, Bruce & Eddie...the image of you lot in your undies is now permanently burned onto my brain....!
Eddie (and Tim) you're right - if we're not liking what we hear, we either click away or click off! But to stick around and hear is something else. I recently read an athiest's words - and you won't believe how similar they are to what the churched are on about these days!
Rethabile - I think we all need to develop good listening skills and wait to hear before we jump in with our views.
Monica - let that seed grow!

I agree Michelle - it's good to read & link to blogs outside our stated purpose; it's also a good thing to do outside blogging. In the 'physical world.' I have learned quite a bit from people outside my particular tradition; hopefully I've been able to contribute some things of value back to others too.

Steve, your view is often different in little ways from mine, but thank you for sticking around here and letting me hang out at your blog too!
