Gravatar Thanks George. You, Bruce and others have helped cement my thoughts in the past year with regard to gathering and just Being as children of God. Thank you for your wonderful example!

Gravatar Michelle, simply post an invite giving a week or so notice.. . the ones that come will be the ones you need... Just eat and enjoy the company, you will be delighted how God handles the conversation and the many benigits and souls you will help. Let it work its self. Watch God move.

Gravatar Thanks Osray. With the festive season coming up and everyone scattering, I'm going to let folk know that we might start something early January - a new thing for a new year! We'll take it from there.

Gravatar This sounds so exciting! I can feel something happening already. Yup, people like Bruce too helped me to understand how relating and forming love for one another is one of the most important ministry we could have.

Gravatar ...and there are so many who need that love and acceptance, right!? Us included. I really hope we can learn to get past the surface relationships we've been so used to and dive deeper into what we all crave - more of each other and Him.

Gravatar Yep, make a meal. Invite some friends to share it with... then watch God touch the lives around you!

Trust Him.... He's good at this "gathering thing". Really.

Gravatar I understand what you mean when you don't want to it to "deteriorate into just a friendly outing". What we did I guess was really blog face to face, in real time. That allowed us to learn from conversations. That was often our teaching. For me, I liked to strip church down and then put it back together again piece by piece, trying to understand why each part was relevant. If it wasn't then it didn't get put back. At one stage we did do a short course provided by the Forge team. It took us thru postmodern culture and got us to think the gospel thru against that backdrop (only $20). We always ate together, and finally tried to include non believing friends where we could tailoring the time to suit. Oh yeah, toward the end I tried to get us each to find a service area, something that showed others what God looked like. Whether it be forging a deeper relationship with a mate, or starting a soup kitchen. It gave focus.
Just my thoughts anyway.

Gravatar Thanks Bruce - I'm taking part of a leaf out of your "hedonistic food-fest" (aka barbecue) gatherings!

Garth - thanks for expanding on what you did. I'm thinking very much along similar lines of deconstructing, spending time together and serving others. I want any gathering to be open to all, and yet for folk to feel they belong - sometimes hard to reconcile.

There will probably be a lot more thoughts on this to blog on soon...
