I can't imagine how the lady managed NOT to smack the crap out of people asking such ignorant questions. I don't remember anyone ever asking me such questions during Vietnam when my husband (now ex) was gone.

I got a little taste of something like this from a Blue Star Mom at Aaron's memorial. I'm not sure where she's from, outside of NM, but wow, it blew my mind. I had no idea what to say to the woman when she said her son would be home in a month and she was glad and she was especially glad he wasn't going back in, we shouldn't be there... Whew!
People can just be morons at any rate, it's not limited anywhere, and too, some are just plain mean and bitter.

This needs to be posted on the front page of every newspaper for about a month. Than maybe people could understand us, our honor, and our thankfulness to our spouses, brothers, sisters, dad's, mom's etc etc etc.
