the reason for making early 90's hiphop mixes is that today everbody makes wack-ass marketing beats. i'm white and hate those fake black rappers and r&b clowns, producers for making the biggest carbage on the marked since the beach boys.
remember the imperial brothers, the high fidelity three, the latin rascals, the bboys, dj cheese, cutmaster dc, dst,dj wiz, dj tat money, dj code money, rso crew, bad boys/k love, redalert, mr magic, fresh force, tla rock, busy b, dj kool, dj flash, kool herc, dondi, dez, zephyr etc, etc, etc, etc.......................
Those were real people, who lived hiphop instead of selling nonsense just for the $.
And another thing: if you've made such amounts of money by selling cheap marketing raps why not try to make real music for a change with the millions of do.
So to every dj: keep up the eighties/ninetees mixes and forget the rubbish in this day & age!
high fidelity three "bboys breakdance" forever!!!!!!!!!

thanks, that clears everything up. lets all go make a bunch of early 90's hiphop mixes that sound exactly the same. thank god we're keeping hiphop alive by confining it to one sound.

Personally I think The Games new album is good, but only because i'm into that kind of music. What they say in their songs is mostly reflected from their life, which I think is quite interesting. Give them a chance {rappers like the game..} their actually really good to listen to, not garbage. personally I think its better than that mosha style music, thats what you call a hunk of junk, you cant even understand what their saying have the time. ew, well not my type.

dude the game sucks. I can't stand the constant name dropping. I don't want to hear him rap about how westcoast he is. He's relying on the westcoast legacy way too much. don't rap about it, be about it.

Took me a moment to regain my senses...
Cuz you blew my love for the early 90's hip hop out my black ass.
First off, thank you for your honesty, and quite frankly, until you said it, I thought it I was the only one thinking it was a lil silly that some of us would always compare newer material to the shit that went down in the 90's...
But shit dude, I have a reason I love the early 90's shit....I was boning to all that shit when I was 14-15 yrs old (yeah, my mama called me a fast bitch until I had my 2nd baby!)
So I guess I have a soft spot for early 90's shit...
But I hear ya...now that I know that shit is played out (according to you....but you seem to carry a lot of clout, so I'll take your advice) I will not listen to that shit outta 1 mile radius from my car and home.
And I promise I won't be that silly bitch that keeps on begging the DJ to play some Uptown Anthem or Hip-Hop Junkies anymore for my old school fix.
Thank God for MP3 players, huh?!?!?
Thanks again for your point of view, it really opened my eyes.
Take care,
Michie

I'm not saying ther is anything wrong with new hip-hop/R&B because I do listen to some new artists, but you have to admit that the late 80's/early 90' s shit was alot better than MOST of the nonsense topping the charts these days. I hear some songs and I wonder how the hell these people make so much damn money off of this shit. Basically the sound was better, the look was better, everything was better back then!!!! And that is fact. I'm only 17 and most people my age have never heard of some of the artists I listen to, and give me that look of confusion when i mention some of them which is fucking sad. I really would like to see a resurgence in old school hip hop and r&b on music video channels and on the radio and everywhere else. Old school will ALWAYS be the fucking best, I don't care what anyone says!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are going to take the time and the money to share your view on the web, you can at least use proper English. If you want me and others to appreciate you have to say, then you should appreciate us for not wanting to hear cuss words. I don't see the validity in your opinion when the only words you are using, are ignorant slang that are not in the English dictionary. Please review your commentaries before publicizing.

you seem to be overlooking one thing, I don't give a fuck if you give a shit about the validity in my opinion. The way I see it, if you think I'm using "ignorant slang" then you shouldn't be listening to hiphop in the first fucking place.

I'd have to agree with a previous poster. Your use of profanity isn't quite needed in your article. I understand you may get this from the hip hop of today, but back in the day you could get your point across without saying bitch or shit or motherfucka every other word. Hip Hop from the 80's/90's was so much better, because it spoke of the life they were living while coming up. All you get now is talk about Grillz, Rims and money. I agree that people need to move on and accept change. That doesn't mean that todays hip hop is anywhere near the level of the 80's & 90's though. Thanks for the insight from your point of view and it's well understood. You've just gotta understand that today's hip hop is very disappointing when compared to the past. You may not care about our opinions, but we all could care less about yours as well. I just kept reading because I thought the post was funny.

the profanity is there because I swear a lot when I talk so naturally it's going to show up in my writing. oh and they make sweet adjectives. As for crying about hiphop today I don't think it's as disposable as people who idolize the early 90's think it is. Yeah you have shitty dance tracks and stuff but there are people pushing this music beyond what was deemed possible back then. People have been saying hiphop died the day after it started. There will always be dope hiphop, its up to listerners to find it rather than whining about their personal golden age.
what people don't seem to get is that this post wasn't about saying early 90's hiphop sucks. It was about those that fantasize about it as if every record from that era was a classic (many were but not all) and uninspired mixes that all have the same goddamn songs on them.
at least you got that it was intended to be amusing.

Thanks for the response SergDun. I hear you on the hip hop of today. You need to search for the right tracks and artists now. There are so many imposters on the seen these days, it kind of dilutes the good stuff with a bunch of crap. Everyone is trying to create their own label and produce anyone, which has inundated the music industry with some horrible music.
Most the artists/groups of today wouldn't have made it back in the day. Artists actually had to be good then, as not anyone would produce a hip hop musician. Sure you still had plenty of imposters and horrible tracks, I'll give you that. These artists/groups just didn't get the radio/video or even underground play that they do today. There is a lot more money in the industry today that allows a label to produce just about anyone, even if they are horrible.
I am tired of these same old mix tracks as well. They could at least use some tracks that weren't big time radio played out jams. Then again, it's all about what made money back then. They're just trying to get a second helping of $$$ off a played out track.

LMAO, As I sit here listening to Doo Wop '95 Live. Which was a mother fucker to find BTW. I agree with Michie, this is the music that I grew to. I remember running to the bootleg shop on the 1st of every month to get the new DJ Juice, Doo Wop or S&S, shit I had a dozen DJ Clue tapes before "The Proffesional" was even a shadow of a thought. See back then hip-hop was ours. Yo Mtv Raps was on so late that only knuckle heads were up to see it and outside of that, the only place we heard it was on our mix tapes and in clubs. The Rap section at my mall's Camelot Music was one rack. Hip-Hop was born in the Bronx in the 70's, it went through puberty in the late 80's and early 90's and hit it's stride in '94 with Biggie and 2-Pac. Sadly though it died with them too. Don't get me wrong, there are some good "rappers" who have made some decent records, but like KRS-1 said, "rap is something you do, Hip-Hop is something you live". I'm weeks away from my 31st b-day and hate to say, but why should I hunt for good rap music in 2006 when I know where to find the best hip-hop, in the early-mid 90's. I will give you this though, these corny DJ's need to leave the 90's to the 90's DJ's, don't try to redo what's already been done, just give me Ron G 10, Clue Summer Shootout '95 or DJ Juice 29.....cause I already have '95 Live.

I share a similar opinion as you state in your article. I am not going to totally shit on 90s music but, I think that people need to realize that times have changed and that the golden era is not the last era of great music.
A poster said it best when she said, "i used to be bonin' to all that shit back in the day". That's what keeps ppl attached. They reminice about what they were doing back then when they heard it. The new Nas track "Where are they now" (90s Mix) is hot as fuck! The old school rappers but wit some updated flows.
Well, check out my website for some up to date mixes of some good music:

Peace:
Your intentions are recognized as meaningful, however your argument is meaningless. Basically what I gather from your statement, "stop recycling played out concepts for your mixes and come up with some original shit you dumb motherfuckers"
is that your hungry for new material and the current spin of music insufficiently satisfies your apetite. True you respect the skills of the djs that drop classic hiphop shit, but don't knock the dj's with SKILL, with their preference being 1994 hiphop. That's like scolding a contemporary artist for painting styles of the early renaissance or art nuveau. Or criticizing a graphic designer that use the Dada or Constructivist movements in their work. Your rant is filled with ambiguous contradictions. Claiming, "Now I'm not a fan of motherfuckers who can't mix for shit and just yell "exCLUEsive!" over songs but goddamn I'd rather peep that shit than another goddamn early 90's mix,"the bottom line is that the better dj is the better dj, no matter what the fuck they play.
Instead of bitching why don't you buy some fukkin turntables, buy some records, learn to mix, and shut the fuk up because nobody wants to hear your nonsensical mumbo jumbo about how you hate retroactive dj's.

To me, current rap being 90% garbage is just the result of over-saturation. Any motherfucker can make a rap lp now in his own room. Technology of today allows us to pull this off - with high quality sound too...
back in the late 80's & early 90's, only a FEW could do it. You know - get signed, go in a studio, lay it down, get promotion from label, etc. Today, everyone has a label. Everyone raps. And 90% are fucking garbage. It's just over-saturation. There IS some good rap music today, i agree. BUT, you have to dig to find some good shit.
Overall though - based on impact and memories - the late 80's and early 90's are UNBEATABLE.
I love the era so much that i changed the format of my radio show from 80% new music and 20% classics to the direct opposite this year.
Music is memories. And the memories with late 80's & early 90's are unbeatable. This is coming from a 33 year old, life-long fan...
But, of course, the 15-16 year olds today will be saying the same shit in 20 years about Bow Wow and fucking Lil Scrappy i guess...
The Little Brother comment tho... whoa... are you crazy? They are one of the top groups making decent rap music today. For those that REALLY know the music, i thought that was a commonly known thing...
oh well... to each his own... was an interesting read regardless

I won't argue that technology has allowed more garbage to rise to the surface, shit just look at myspace that shit is scary. But I think technology has also allowed for people who never would have been heard to get out there. For as much as it sucks it does have some benefits.
My issue is not with arguing about the validity of the early 90s hiphop being dope but rather that there are good records coming out but so many have their heads up their ass trying to make throwback mixes that all sound the same. Kids spend way to much time crying about snap music when they should be listening to Trae. Honestly I'd rather listen to scrappy rap about tearing up the club than some amateurs from la rapping about rapping. At least scrappy is exciting. I think for a lot of people its about nostalgia and as much as I like to visit old records I'm not one to turn def ear to new sounds. I love hiphop and I seek it out everyday. I'll sift through all the garbage just to find some new clearance bin 12" that blows my mind and takes me back to that feeling I got when I first heard the classic records that got me into this shit in the first place.
Anyways the point is not to abandon the classics but too seek out new music rather than being discouraged by what mtv is pushing on you.
as for little brother sorry man but I find them incredibly boring and really if I want to hear that type of shit I'd bust out some tribe, they did it better the first time around.
