Thanks... The 3 interior shots on the 'Architectural' page will link to Quicktime VR images that you can click in and rotate around a 360 degree view. But, I have to figure out how to get the QTVR's small enough to be practical. I need 1 more exterior shot for that page. You can tell where it's missing. But, I can't find the model I want to use. (aggravating!) I want to make each of the other images link to a page with more images and a more detailed description of the project - or link to the site the banner/logo was for. But, there are some confidentiality issues with some. And, others I just have *no* idea what the final product was. I usually only get enough info to execute my part of the project.

AHH HA!!! I found it! On an old back-up disk was the model that is next to the red brick church. That's the mansion that was HQ for a company I used to work for. There are 2 large barns out back that housed most of the production facilities - and *now* the whole company. The Big House is being leased out.

What software do you use for your modeling (especially the architectural stuff).

Apparently Demetrius has taken the kids for another round of back-to-school shopping now that he finally found that elusive file. I just got home and they're gone.
I finally decided that I needed just get *out* of the house so that I could finish the application without distraction. The posting didn't say that today was the *deadline*, but it did say that the position opens today. So I was determined to actually get the thing handed in. Which I did.
I also want to write a letter to explain some of the skills and temperaments I honed through homeschooling and the web stuff. I was thinking I'd just write that while I was still at the library, but this pair of adolescent boys were sitting right next to me doing internet chats and stuff, generally being hyperkinetic and laughing a lot.
At the libraries around here, you have to go to a reservation station to reserve a computer to use. I tried logging off, killing a bit of time, and then trying for another reservation. Got the same dang computer. Those guys were still there. They didn't seem to be leaving any time soon, so I decided I had a better chance of accomplishing something at home.
But now that inspiration I had a couple hours ago about what exactly I wanted to write, seems to have disappeared. Oh well, I'll get back to it later this evening.
I don't care about Pluto very much at the moment, but I really love Neptune. Remember when we sent some little photographer gizmo out to Neptune? I loved that. It was so beautiful and blue. But Pluto is just a little icy rock, as far as I can tell. But maybe Pluto deserves better.

I use Lightwave. It's great software. A lot of companies use Maya, or 3D Studio. I find them to be less intuitive and not much more powerful for *much* more money. (But, I've been using Lightwave for ~15 years. So, it could just be culture shock that keeps me from switching.)
Lightwave isn't really architectural software. It's made for CG video effects. Most of the effects you see on TV are done in Lightwave. 3D Studio evolved from CAD software. But, it is used more for gaming now. It's interesting. In Lightwave the Z axis goes from front to back. In 3DS the Z axis is oriented up and down. This is because the original 2 axes for effects are up/down and right/left on a movie screen. If you add a 3rd dimension it would go back into the screen. The original 2 axes on a drafting table are front/back and left/right. If you add a 3rd dimension it would go *down* thru the table. These conventions carried over into the software. So, if I load a 3DS object into Lightwave it is turned on it's back.
If you want to make cool 3D graphics I'd recommend learning Lightwave. If you have the money, and you want to have more options for jobs, I'd recommend learning 3DS or Maya (too.)

This isn't about Pluto. This is about fighting the Astronomical *Establishment*! If the space *Man* can declare that Pluto isn't a planet what's to stop him from coming after *us* next? Workers of the Outer Worlds Unite!!!

Check out needsoftware.com. They often have very good deals. For Lightwave also check out the mfg site newtek.com.
JayDean, I thought about writing a post about why the Pluto thing strikes a chord, but, as I've no doubt mentioned, I've got a lot of plates I'm trying to keep spinning right now.
I think some of it is the fact that, with all the uncertainty we face, there's something reassuring about there being a few things we *know*, and our parents knew, and our grandparents knew. Some things are supposed to stay the same, dang it. It's not rational, and it's not *that* big a deal, but I think it's "there" on some level.
And then there's the matter of "the little guy" getting screwed".
And the fact that a lof of us expected that we were getting *more* planets, but instead one got booted. Gotta keep the club "exclusive". Again, not rational, and I'd never post this at the bad place, but I do think there's some of that in the mix.
And, come on--we can't get Bush impeached, or even censured, after all of the bad stuff he's done, but Pluto gets the boot? Once again, if you're powerful, you're untouchable, but, again, if your a "little guy", your expendable.
Bottom line, I guess, is that for me there's a lot of symbolism.
And also an opportunity to sell stuff.
