Howard-Empowered People Comments

Gravatar Howard is first!

I have a survey that I need some help with - if any/everyone can go to my diary on DKos and fill it out that would be greatly helpful and I would be immensely grateful.

Gravatar Hey Oscar. I can't get my mind around a survey right now, but I'll try to get back to it. And I've added the link to the main post.

Gravatar Is that tie *pink*? I caught a few minutes of Howard on tv yesterday and thought he was wearing a red tie....

Gravatar Corinne, I seem to recall someone posting about a red/pink tie Howard was wearing when they saw him speak once. I think that may be the tie in question.

Gravatar Thanks for the transcribing, Renee.

Gravatar Good job, Renee. First time I have been able to get this site to load well all day. I figured if I waited long enough I would get here.

The tie looked pink to me.

Gravatar Thanks for the transcription, Renee. I like the pink? tie!

Gravatar You're welcome, jc.

Blogger has been a pain in the butt today. I crossposted at the Wordpress blog.

http://howardempowered.wordpress.com

That place has its own little quirks--certainly enough that I'm not itching to switch over to that for the main blog.

I've actually been removing some things from the blog in the hopes of getting it to load better. Javascript is often a culprit, so I took down the blogroll on the left hand side. I might reinstall it at some point, but I'm not sure right now. But today the issue is definitely Blogger, because I've even had a hard time logging in.

Gravatar Hi guys. I'm taking a break again. I stopped working on the house about 6 p.m. and started sewing again. My granddaughter is starting kindergarten Thursday. I bought her several outfits, but I'm making her some too.

Doing it to help myself. I'm on the Olympic Fabric Aquisition Team. I have roughly three rooms full of fabric, and I'm NOT exaggerating. Trying to use some of it up to make the pile smaller.

And I bought 90% of it at the thrift store at about 50 cents a yard or less. Good stuff, too.

Gravatar Hey Susan, did you ever see the sermon I posted yesterday? Click my homepage.

Gravatar Yes, and I left a comment too. The comment counter still shows "1", but I can see my comment. ???

Gravatar I will have to go check. The counter here often says 0 even when there are comments, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I just noticed at Buckeye State Blog that there is supposed to be an Ohio gov debate tomorrow. Trying to find out more, and if we'll be able to see it.

Gravatar I did just manage to publish in blogger, but it's been "iffY" and ornery for a few days.

Gravatar I'm going to miss Howard *again*. He's going to be at a fund-raiser in Columbus at the Capitol Club on Thursday the 7th. They have 16 spots at $50 per, and the rest are $250 each.

Gravatar I know, Susan. We got an e-mail about that too. I was actually tempted to e-mail the ODP guy listed as the contact and tell him if he lets me in for free, I'll transcribe.

Gravatar SusanDean, you are a person after my own heart! I love your report: Sewing to make some cute outfits for your granddaughter AND to use up and clear out some good fabric you bought for a really good price.

Gravatar Renee, why don't you email the contact person? I think that is perfectly reasonable, though you might be giving him too good a deal. Democrats are supposed to care about working people and value hard work!

Gravatar Howard needs to fundraise for a lower sticker price and greater people power and enthusiasm. If he came to town and a lot of people could afford to show up, he would make more news and inspire more voters.

Gravatar Well, I get a tad irked. Apparently all non-Ohioans think there are only 3 cities in OH; Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland.

Always makes me feel left out.

Gravatar I think this fundraiser is for the Ohio Dem Party? I'd love to meet Howard, but I'd rather give my donations directly to the candidates. ODP did, after all, endorse Dann over Chandra. I'd have been real unhappy to think they were giving $$ to Dann when I supported Chandra. 'Course, now that Dann is the candidate that's okay.

But I'd still rather do it myself.

Gravatar Still not finding anything about watching the Strickland/Blackwell debate if you're not actually able to watch it in Youngstown.

http://www.wfmj.com/

If anyone else finds anything, please post, okay?

Gravatar SusanDean,

One of my best friends growing up in Louisiana was from Toledo.

Gravatar SusanDean,

One of my best friends growing up in Louisiana was from Toledo.

Gravatar BuckeyeStateBlog or Blogesque might have something about it at some point. Will let you know if I see anything.

Gravatar Yup, jc. I grew up in Lebanon, Springboro, Xenia and Dayton. My mom was a nomad and moved almost every single year. One year we moved from the *north* end of a street to the *south* end of the same street. Once we actually, for real, moved *across the street*.

I HATE moving! So when my brother and son and I moved into this house we had to get a new furnace. The furnace guy, trying to determine what level of furnace goodness we needed asked how long we planned to live in the house. I said, "Until we die."

Gravatar SusanDean,

I just helped my Mom publish her life story to give to her family members. In the back, she listed all her homes. The current one is #50 - I did most of those with her, and have done quite a few of my own since going off to college. I guess one of these days, I'll have to figure out if I've topped my Mom's number.

Gravatar I hate moving too. That's why we have to make sure Strickland wins.

Gravatar jc, if I self-published my life story I believe I'd end up on the talk show circuit. My whole family for five generations has been a freak show without the tent. Makes for traumatic living, but real good story-telling. I come from some real characters.

Gravatar Yes, I want to make sure Strickland wins too. I'm tired of living in the Texas-Florida-Ohio Devil's Triangle.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!
He's speaking here in Burlington TOMORROW NIGHT and I don't have $50 to get in.
I truly believe they'd get as much money and have a bigger crowd if they just opened it to "donation at the door."
At $50 per person they only get to preach to the choir anyway.
DUMB!

I don't believe Howard is behind it
because he always valued (and was proud of) the small donations.

I also prefer to give donations directly to the candidates I'm supporting.

Howard is speaking in support of Scudder Parker here,
and I feel sure that if I complained the Scudder people would let me in for less, since I've contributed to his campaign and volunteer.
Nonetheless, I do NOT want to feel like I got there on charity.

It oughtta just be open.

Gravatar I guess I won't top my Mom's number (hopefully, because I hate to move).

I just counted, and I think my last move put me at 37 (I may come up with a couple more if I think hard enough).

Before I went to college, I was never in any one place longer than two years. My last house, I stayed about 10 years (and in the same City for 24 years), so I think I probably wasn't the family member who liked the idea of having no roots.

Gravatar I hate moving too (did it every other year growing up, but have been in VT for 24 years).

So I sure hope we get this country turned around soon,
because Prince Edward Island beckons at times.

Gravatar listener,

Sometimes, I'm wistful that I might have stayed in Vermont and grown up there. I may have lost some travel experiences, but I always wondered what it would be like to grow up around my really big family there, instead of being an occasional visitor.

Gravatar Unfortunately I have to get up early tomorrow. So, guess I'd better sign off. Good-night to all, and to all a good night.

Gravatar 'Night, Susan.

I just did a Kos diary excerpting the transcript, by the way....

http://www.dailykos.com/story/20...9/4/21432/ 75371

Gravatar Well, jc, it's not too late!

We aren't done growing up until we die.
See you soon...? ♥

Gravatar On my TV Howard's tie looked red.

I thought it funny that he was wearing red and the Republican was wearing light blue. :chuckle:

But don't go by my TV because it's really old and sometimes the sound cuts out altogether until we jiggle the wires.
We'll get a new one if the Republicans lose in House and Senate and the economy begins to turn around.

Gravatar listener,

Let me see if I can survive another year of driving on ice in KY, and then we'll see. I've been pulled out of a ditch once already. I never did learn those skills living in tropical climates.

Gravatar Did anybody ever post the link to the transcript over at the other place?

Gravatar Howdy, friends,

The tie certainly looks hot pink in the pic. However, I know that colors can be deceptive. Today I'm wearing a deep magenta jersy, but in some lights it looks red. So, Howard's tie is probably really red but looks magenta in some lights. *sigh* It would be nice if he'd wear a pink tie. I mean, *that* would be a statement of his masculinity. A *real* man can wear a pink tie.

It is funny that Howard's tie was red and the Repug's tie was blue. Wonder if they planned it that way?

Gravatar *The* most important city or town or hamlet in Ohio is Oragon Ohio, Birthplace of yours Truly. I usually just say Toledo, though. More people have heard of Toledo.

Gravatar The Other Place. In the Bartimeus Trilogy, that's where the spirits (or demons) come from. Although Bartimeus very definitely does not consider it to be hell, the description meshes with some Christian descriptions of Hell. C.S. Lewis comes to mind, especially in _The Screwtape Letters_.

Bartimeus is a very engaging character, definitely *not* a demon or devil, though perhaps a bit of a rogue. Goodness, but I wish I had that kind of talent! The Bartimeus Trilogy is an excellent read.

Gravatar Steviemo, formerly of "the other place" has a diary at Kos...

Explaining Who Attacked Us ... in 60 Seconds

Gravatar I hear the Israeli soldures the Israel/Hesbola war was ostensibly over have been freed. Good news, but what about the one held in Gaza? And, has Sec.Gen Annan tried to make Israel loose its strangle hold on Gaza? Not that they'd give a pair of dingos' kidneys...

Also heard NASA's back on for sending a mission to repair Hubbel. Hope that comes off!

Gravatar Renee - So, if I have a little something to post - nothing earth-shaking mind you, should I save it as a draft? Then can you see it and post it when and if you want to? Sorry for the stupid question...

Gravatar tc, whatever you like--you can post it now or later.

Gravatar TC, there are no stupid questions. There are only questions that people don't know the answer to.

Believe me. I ask a *lot* of stupid questions.

Gravatar Generally, you don't want posts too close together timewise. Other than that, Renee's pretty laid back about HEP cats posting.

Gravatar Thanks, Renee and Cat. It's up there, but there's some pretty yukky stuff where the apostrophes are supposed to be. Sorry!

Gravatar So, if I go in and try to fix it, should I then "repost"? It doesn't put it up a second time, does it? Clueless, I know.

Gravatar I tried the survey, and pooped out. It seemed pretty hostile to religion. Also, the Church can legitimately be a number of things to different people, to the same people at different times, and within different communities.

My view is that the Church's job is to worship God. In the course of doing that, they promote social justice and assist the poor.

The Church also often organizes and/or sponsors social events and sometimes assists workers to organize or protestors to resist unjust circumstances. The survey had no place for such complexity. Talk about black and white! And, as I read through it, I got a feel for the answers that the surveyor wanted. *shakes head* Don't know what kind of results she/he will get.

Gravatar No, it doesn't post a duplicate. All that happens is that the new and improved version gets posted, recorded as it were, over the old version. Want me to go in and see what's going on with the apostrophes?

Gravatar tc, you *should* be able to edit, publish, edit again, publish, any number of times and not duplicates.

But Blogger is possessed lately, so all bets are off.

Gravatar There's gobbletygook at the apostrophes and dashes. Help, please?

Gravatar Cat, In the interest of it not sitting up there wrong for too long, I'd be very grateful. I'll get better with experience, I hope.

Gravatar I'll take care of it--hang on a sec...

Gravatar jc ~ They actually have winter driving classes you can take.
Most key is to get four wheel or front wheel drive with anti-lock brakes,
and learn what to do if you begin to slide, fishtail or spin. It's not hard.

The most important thing to remember is that it is MUCH easier to drive in snow than in ice.
With ice, all bets are off.
One learns when to stay home.

But we don't get hit hard here by hurricanes, tornadoes, or earthquakes.

And it's still incredibly safe here
even at night.

Gravatar Okay, I think the post is ready.

Gravatar THANK YOU, RENEE!!! You're the best. I read more about what I'm doing before I try again.

Gravatar That's I WILL read more...

And be less tired, I hope.
