Oscar has provided the Funnies.
I seem to be providing the Seriousies.

So, save a few of the funnies for after you read what I've posted!

Gravatar You want to know? *I* really want to know. . . .
puddle*in*NYC | Homepage | 10.07.06 - 12:47 am

I'll bet!

Maybe just a chippy.
Hopefully not squirrels.

You may want to arrive with a medium sized have-a-heart trap, and some likely bait.
(Black-oil sunflower seed should do it.)

I have some experience with the process.

Gravatar = Traveling Mercies to you, Thankful! =
You're so merciful it would be only fair. ♥

So, where's our Catreona lately?
Has she had PT again?
Hope all is well.

Gravatar Good morning, all. Thanks for the funnies, Oscar. Thanks for making me cofirst on a previous thread, listener. You are also cofirst!

Renee, I tried to read your post from the Ohio Restoration Project, but it was pretty hard slogging. He starts off by saying people came to America to get away from Catholics. Well if i am remembering the puritans correctly, they were leaving the Church of England who had already split from the Catholics during which quite a few heads rolled, on both sides. And quite a few heads rolled when the Puritans took over in England, including that of the king. So right away, I'm not pleaed with Mr. Ohio Restoration Project.

Then when he says Christians were/are not welcome in centers of power or politics in the USA, including the mainline churches, I am really not amused. His definition of Christian is pretty narrow. I guess it refers only to people who think just like he does. I'll bet people in mainline churches will be surprised to learn that they are not Christians.

All that smugness and whining at the same time is pretty hard to take.

Thanks for the transcript, Renee. I know as much as I want to about Ohio Restoration Project.

Gravatar Oscar,

The Saturday Toons are one of the things I longed for while I was away. Thank You.

"What I have done, all men may do, and what I am, all men shall be." -Jesus (from "The Aquarian Gospel")

Gravatar Hi everyone,

listener, you're a dear. Thanks for inquiring about me. Yes, I have been going to PT three days a week. It's going well; not much carryover to home yet, but a little. I just sort of veged out yesterday afternoon and evening, lazing on the couch and watching the boob tube. Did some Braille homework, but basically abandoned myself to decadence.

We have something of a crisis here. Mum's special kitty friend has been in hospital since Thursday. Yesterday she seemed to be doing better, but this morning she's had a turn for the worse. Mum is terribly upset. She's very attached to this kitty.

So, if people could send good vibes to my mum and Princess, I'd really appreciate it.

listener, did you say squirls? Dad's been trying to catch squirls in Mum's bedroom wall for several days. Derned little critters are very smart, and getting smarter all the time. They've figured out how to nip in and snitch the peanuts without tripping the trap. Dad keeps setting out more, and they keep not getting caught. I think they must think it's a game. And, I find it very amusing. Even Mum, who does not like having squirls in her walls thinks it's funny. But, Dad is not amused. And, he's absolutely certain that if he keeps providing peanuts, one day Mr. Squirl and co. will trip the trap.

Gravatar JayDean, I was thinking the same thing--I was pretty sure it wasn't the Catholics people were getting away from. But you really need to suspend disbelief to listen to someone like this, apparently. It's such an entirely different view of the world. More in a bit, but I thought I'd share this blog I found just now. It's the blog of someone who commented at Plunderbund about this Lankford guy (who is a homeschooler).

Gravatar The Aquarian Gospel, Subway? That one doesn't sound familiar. Is it one of the Gnostic Gospels?

Are you familiar with Astara? I kind of drifted away from them, but they're into alternative interpretations of the Christian Scriptures, an admixture of Hindu and Bhudist teaching, healing through light and thought power, etc.

Gravatar JayDean

I have to agree with you. I'm really getting tired of this so called Christian persecution that the evangelicals keep whining about. When you openly profess that anyone who doesn't believe the way you do is going to hell for all eternity, you set up certain mindsets that are not only un Christian, but dangerous.

As we enter the Columbus Day weekend I'm reminded that this Christian mindset was used to justify the wholesale slaughter of native cultures in this New World. Those killings were justified because the natives hadn't accepted Christ and therefore had no rights in this world nor the world to come that any Christian had to respect. In fact, such slaughter was seen as the will of God. The same holds true for slavery.

Today, these same folk try to push the Book of Genesis as a peer reviewed scientific journal, and openly state that the Constitution must hold sway to Leviticus. I have no sorrow in my heart when I say that the public policy arena has no place at the table for the delusional.

A final point is this nonsense about "Eternal Life." Christians think it as some kind of reward for choosing the right religon. They say that you will have it after you die. This is fractally absurd. Eternal means not only "without end," but also includes "having no beginning!" Which means if you had a beginning, you must have an end. If you have eternal life, you have no beginning or ending. So, in effect, Christianity is selling you something that already belongs to you.

This view gives one a different perspective on Christianity. It shows that every individual is an eternal being worthy of Compassion and caring. It shows that if we lead the way in helpfulness we can comfort and succor those who carry burdens greater than our own. In this way we will reach our Awakening together. We will become Son of Man together.

Gravatar For anyone who didn't click the link, this is what I learned about Lankford *after* we heard him speak...
--
“Now it seems that Americans practice greater tolerance except toward evangelical Christians,” said Lankford, who runs FamilyVision's Christian homeschool program and is the former “social conservative coordinator” for the Ohio Republican Party.

The Toledo Blade reports he was fired from that position in July for including a link in an e-mail to an Internet posting speculating that Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ted Strickland might be gay.

http:// www.clevelandjewishnews.c...ankford1006.txt

He was really unhappy about the ten commandments being taken out of schools and courthouses. Maybe he should have read them more carefully, because I'm pretty sure one of them says something about "not bearing false witness".

"The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus The Christ" by Levi

In my opinion, the most important book ever written. It includes a complete record of the "lost" 18 years of the life of Jesus between his dispute with the elders and the beginning of his ministry. It is a fascinating page turner from beginning to end and I recommend it highly to everyone who wants to understand our impending evolution to Son of Man (homo infinitis.

Gravatar My favourite Comic is:

And a River in Egypt

...sums up the whole of Bush's time in office.

Gravatar JayDean ♥
And the really interesting part about people taking the Bible literally and as something that can never be amended
is that the "Old" Testament was originally an oral tradition (for longer than it hasn't been),
and as such was routinely embellished over time.
Where folks went wrong was in writing it down and setting it in virtual stone...
like headstoning something that's alive.

Gravatar Cat ~ I recommend getting a larger have-a-heart trap, so that when the squirrel goes in to get the peanuts, it has more space to cover before it can get out, thus less time to get back out before the trap shuts.

Good luck! Squirrels can do serious damage to a house.

Gravatar I've written up a bit more of that guys' talk from last night.

Gravatar Oops--comment went somewhere into the ether...

Morning all! Thanks for the comics, Oscar--haven't read them yet, but that's next on my list.

Yesterday I received my sample ballot and my (very thick) voter's pamphlet; started on them last night and largely worked through them this morning. Decided to kick in some money for the Todd Chretien for Senate campaign ( http://www.todd4senate.org ) and will get one of his bumper stickers. It's arguably a little late, but most people probably aren't focused yet anyway. Notably absent from the ballot is a legitimate Democratic candidate for state senate in our district; it's a Republican versus a "Democratic" crackpot, and that's all. Absolutely no one I can vote for in that race.

And now off to the comics!

Gravatar ONE MONTH UNTIL ELECTION DAY!

wOOt!

Gravatar It's arguably a little late, but most people probably aren't focused yet anyway. ~Alan

Naw, it's not late.
Go into campaign HQ and ask enthuiastically for a bumpersticker,
and they'll be riding the wave of delight for hours afterwards.
Give 'em a little thrill.

Gravatar Okay, I need to go work on the garden some more...even though my sore throat is still with me.

Already dunnit. And (as a result of my experience with Dean For America) I gave until it hurt (well, a little bit, anyway).

My favorites among the comics Oscar has so kindly gathered for us:
Gun Control...
...And Pedophiles

Gravatar I received the following from my good friend who lives in Santa Fe, NM - governed by the "eloquent" Bill Richardson. She works for the state with disabled individuals. She said I could share it with you....

Cat, I do hope you take this in the spirit that Gail has offered. Disabled people are very special to her.

*********************************

So I'm at a big conference on Disability Awareness. The Governor comes in and gives a speech about everything his administration is doing - from funding new programs to increasing accessibility throughout the state - etc. etc. It's all very PC and motivating and everyone applauds and cheers, as the Gov clearly understands the needs of the population.

You need to picture this: the room is at least 90% occupied by people with disabilities - in wheelchairs, with missing limbs, etc.

The Gov then introduces the Speaker of the House. And he says, as the guy is taking the stage (this is a quote): "Hey everybody, can't we do better than that? Stand up and show him some respect!" Let me repeat that... "STAND UP and show him some respect..."

At first I thought it was a joke, but then I realized it wasn't - and the Gov probably didn't know what he said. To make it worse a few people tried to be "respectful" and stand up, or wiggle-up as the case may be, and they weren't having much success; wincing, groaning...it was hideous, but it was so damn funny.

********************************

Now you have to know my friend - she finds the humor in things that are surreal, as this unfortunate experience for Governor Richardson!

Gravatar "The Gov then introduces the Speaker of the House."

Meaning Hastert? Maybe I'm just slower than usual today, but I've tried a couple times to read this story, and I can't seem to get the characters sorted out.

There's a new thread, by the way.
