Sure does, Susan.
I'm kind of multitasking over here, jotting down more notes for my spiritual autobiography, which I'm supposed to give tonight in my EFM class, and checking in on the discussion at FDL. Someone just wrote:
"Two things Sen. Obama says to Russert, that this voter finds bothersome. Mr. Obama states he did not (as we know) support a filibuster against John Roberts for the Supreme Court. And Mr. Obama says he finds President Bush to be a “decent man”. I do not find Bush to be in any way “decent”."

I have to leave in a few minutes to babysit. But I just have to say, it's apparent that Obama took to heart all that his "mentor" Lieberman had to teach. For my part Obama is just a younger, more outwardly appealing version of Loserman. And I place the same amount of trust in Obama as I do in Lieberman. Which is to say, none.

The RNC and RNCC are despicable in the kinds of ads they are running. One about Ford meeting a blonde at a Playboy party - one about an NY congressional candidate's staff member billing the taxpayers for a call to phone sex line, something they've demonstrated was a misdial, the number being one off from a legitimate government number...
Just despicable.

Good luck with your spiritual autobiography, Renee. I bet it will be excellent!
Oscar, I so agree about integrity. All the political consultant types wanting us to *me too* the Republicans on "moral values." Why would we *me too* the Republicans on moral values? They don't have any moral values, they just have power and money values. They are hypocrits and users. I despair when I see the way several of my cousins have fallen for their line. They are not stupid, but they have been attacked with emotional argument. Maybe they will wake up, along with the rest of the country!

Good afternoon everyone.
Just got on and checked all of your comments last night - thanks so much everyone.
It is amazing how difficult it has to really get this story to "break" - yet it has everything tied into one when we are heading into election season!
Florida, stolen elections, government corruption, unethical politicians, wiretapping, secrecy, false arrests, denial of rights (free speech, free association, freedom itself! ... right to petition for redress of grievances, right to speedy trial, right to fair trial, I could go on ...)
I saw someone ask about the $40,000. This is what the attorney that I hired five months ago (and paid the original $10,000 to) said it will take for me to continue to retain him through the trial.
The bulk of it is for his retainer - and what he would do is to shut down his practice for the rest of the month and handle only this case.
I don't think I will be able to do this - and so I will have to let him go.
The rest of the money is for the depositions of witnesses, transcripts of the depositions, and expert witnesses.
I am looking into trying to get some of the experts locally - to save money - and seeing who might be able to fill that role from the University of Florida.
The depositions have to be taken in the next two weeks - so this is a major deadline.
Perhaps the ACLU will step in eventually - I don't know. But at this point it looks as if I will represent myself pro se - and use whatever funds I can raise in this short time for the discovery and witness portion of the case.
I saw Tim's post - and while he makes good points that must be considered - this is not a time or a case for making a "deal." This is about far more than the particulars of the case and what it means for me. This is about all of our rights, our must fundamental rights, and it is this very system of "deal-making" that has so distorted our justice system - that it no longer produces, and in reality no longer can even conceive of, its original aim - and that is justice itself.
Thanks so much. Your contributions and those that have been raised as a result of your spreading the word are greatly appreciated.
But most importantly - its your voice in spreading the word around that is the most valuable contribution that you can give and I truly appreciate that more than anything.
And of course - there are the words of support - and knowing that I am not alone. This is what keeps me sane throughout all of this.
Thank you,
Charlie

I saw it too, and said a prayer for you for when you read it.
Thank you.
Do not go gentle into that bad deal.
I appreciate and feel Tim's concern that YOU be all right at the end of all of this. He is right that you matter more than this just and vital cause.
I'm sad the money isn't there for the lawyer,
and sad he can't just do it anyway,
and I hope mightily that Way will open for this to be resolved fairly.
When that happens, no doubt, the media attention will follow.
I'm grateful for the High Springs Herald articles, meanwhile.
Keep us posted.
Let us know how you are, what you need, what's next.

In the past few weeks, as I've read these Sunday Sermons I've found myself being put off by the mere mention of the name of Jesus. I've never had such feelings about other religions. I've always felt comfortable with people of all faiths, but lately talk of Jesus has turned me off.
Then I realized tha it wasn't Jesus that turned me off, it was the rank stupidity of an enormous segment people who call themselves Christians, and their annoying absolutism toward the delusional.
The universe was not created in 144 consecutive hours less than ten thousand years ago. Yet many Christians proclaim that belief in Genesis is essential to being a Christian.
Joshua didn't make the sun stand still. I can't sell my daughter into slavery, and frankly, if God hates fags, why did he create them?
Jesus is not the way to eternal life. All Life is Eternal. The life that Jesus led is the pattern of Compassion that shows folks the meaning of our eternal selves. His resurrection demonstrates that there is no death.
As long as Christians allow its talibangelicals to define Christians, they will be resisted by people who think for themselves, accept science, and love their fellow man without living by Leviticus.
Religion is like Ice Cream. Ice Cream is one but there are many flavors. Some, like me usually like vanilla, my wife likes pistaccio. Some folks prefer the "Rocky Road." While others get off on "Cherry Garcia."
If James Dobson is a Christian, no, if people of faith let James Dobson and his ilk call themselves Christians and get away with it, then Christians will always stand rebuked because of their bad apples.
They will always be a stain on the actual Christians who do Love's work.
Namaste

listener, I really can't think of any spiritual highs or lows. Just moments that I questioned something or realized something, and general recollections of certain time periods.
It's going pretty well, and I'm remembering things I hadn't thought of for a while. I'm just feeling really sleepy at the moment after being out in the gray. Need to wake up and finish my reading for tonight's class. It's about biblical criticism, and is much longer than previous readings this year. Usually I can get the reading done while Daughter is practicing with the church choir, but I still have a lot left to read.
I'm still getting used to our new mentor. We had two women last year, but one has been ordained a deacon and the other is unable to make the time commitment because of her mother's health care needs. The man who is our mentor this year just has a very different style. That's all I'll say about that right now. But just skimming the readings doesn't feel like an option.

Ah, Renee. The main thing is to be as authentic as you have articulation for.
Blessings on the evening,

Biblical Criticism is good stuff...
and I say that as a right-brainer!

Restful Saboth, all.
Subway, I agree with you completely on faux Christians. The problem is, some Evangelicals are good, sincere people who truely believe, e.g. that the cosmos was created in six twenty-four hour periods and that all science is unspeakably evil. If anything, these good, misguided people are harder to deal with than the hipocritical SOB's.

Caterona,
I'm not responsible for their reality. Their beliefs are not Law in the United States. If one thinks that this country is a Christian Nation made only for the Bible Believing Born Again, they should be ridiculed in the same way that the Taliban or any extremist faith based group should be, before they need to be violently resisted.
