You have got the situation on the Korean peninsula fundamentally wrong. You characterize the situation as a matter of one side against the other. That is you see the US, Japan, and S Korea pitted against Russia, China, and N Korea. The six-party talks which were partly successful in defusing the tensions on the Korean peninsula (remember the nuclear test explosion of 2006) should not be abandoned to a new Cold War configuration as you have suggested in your article. The latest missile testing by the N Koreans is a small problem compared to the bigger issue of the need to denuclearize the Korean peninsula. Until this recent flareup which was not kept in secrecy by the N Koreans, relations were already mending if you recall the willingness of the N Koreans to invite the IAEA into their country to help dismantle and monitor the plutonium reprocessing center at Yongbyon in 2007. Even the arch-antagonist of the N Koreans, former anti-UN ambassador John Bolton admitted on Fox News recently that the best way to proceed is to get the Chinese government to lean hard on the N Koreans to return to the six-party talks. So Mr Alexander you are even to the right of the right wing neo-con John Bolton. Shame.
