GLOBAL AMERICAN DISCOURSE

Gravatar Good post. I do not hear to much in the way of politics as it relates to Japan and America. I came through Japan many years ago. stay well.....

Gravatar Although some disparage the term "neocon," the American ideals of freedom and self-rule serve all nations well.

For some years, Japan has become more Western in outlook--unless I am misinformed. And I don't believe that Westernizing necessarily leads to a loss of cultural identity.

Now, I don't believe that America should impose her ideals on the rest of the world. But encouraging those ideas? I think that's okay.

BTW, if Hillary Clinton is elected to the Presidency, our administration here will no longer be conservative in outlook. How does Japan feel about the strong possibility of Hillary's becoming President of the United States?

Gravatar "It is utterly stupid to spend much time on such a petty parliamentary talk in the era of global war on terror."

Now that's an interesting point!

Gravatar tapline,

Thanks. Staunch alliance with the United States is they key in Japan's foreign and security policy. Quite appallingly, some "intellectuals" argue weakening this alliance, because they hate "cow boy diplomacy."

Without the special relationship with the United States, none of the nations in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East regard Japan as an important partner.

Gravatar Always on Watch,

Hilary Rodham Clinton has close ties with China, which raises serious concern among Japanese leaders and public. Particularly, nationalists loath this.

Contact with China is not necessarily bad, but some Japanese worry that policy balance could shift toward China. Will Hilary take sufficient consideration to the balance between Japan and China?

Quite a few Japanese prefer "pro-Japanese" Republican to "pro-Chinese (or Korean)" Democrats.

But whether Republican or Democrat, policies in case of crises over the Taiwan Strait, in the Korean Peninsula, or in the East China Sea, will be more or less the same.

Gravatar Americaneocon,

The Indian Ocean operation issue is beyond party politics. You may have read this article by Michael Austin of AEI
