Gravatar This is reminicent of a bunny story I think you might remember...on the way to the play in red rock.

Sorry you had to join the sorry little road killer club.

I am also sad to say I am a repeat offender, having intoduced my old Suburban to a gopher some years back. The Suburban was not impressed.

Gravatar "The Suburban was not impressed" - *snort*

A little lesson on potential roadkill smaller than a cow: NEVER try to avoid hitting them. There are exactly two potential outcomes.

a) The animal will dart out of the path; if you try to avoid hitting it you may hit it by mistake when it moves

b) The animal will not dart out of the way, in which case it is stupid and should be removed from the gene pool.

Gravatar I second Ken here, but I worry more about the potential damage to my vehicle than I do about the animal.

Funny and slightly related story: During our drive back from vacation, we hit a rest stop. The wife and girls went to the restroom and I stayed back with the boy and let him run around a bit. As we're getting ready to head back to the truck, my oldest notices a chirping bird on the sidewalk. She walks over and realizes it's a young bird that just learned/can barely fly. We tell her to come on, and she says, "But it's a baby bird. We can't just leave it there."

I say, "Honey, it'll be just fine."

We get packed back up and get on the road and she says, "Who's going to help the little bird?"

I don't know how this happened but apparently I'm raising a hippie.

Gravatar Shanny, I do remember the bunny. Bunnies can be suicidal, too. This isn't my first time smacking something into oblivion, but it's certainly the most recent. I popped a pigeon once. This is my second squirrel. I just couldn't believe this thing sat there and watched me come.

Ken, I drive a Honda Fit. Miles calls it an "appliance." I actually worried for a second that hitting the squirrel would flip me. Silly, I know.

Cullen, you are raising a thoughtful, compassionate little girl. And yes, she will be a hippie.
