You know what makes this even worse? The guy probably purposefully misspelled the thing because "believe" was already taken.

I agree, Cullen, about the real spelling being taken. A friend of mine has turned me on to this bit of fun: you can go to the NV DMV site, type in a desired plate combination, and see if it's available.

I see hours of fun in my future.

After thinking about it for a bit, I thought maybe the guy deliberately misspelled it also (since the correct spelling was likely taken), but then WHY wouldn't you obviously misspell it, so that no one thinks you are a giant bonehead...like BEELEEV or something? In my book, he's still a moron!

Some of those would probably be rejected. I know that obviously off-color vanity plates are rejected here in New Jersey - although they all still proudly say "New Jersey" right on the plate itself, which would seem to defeat the purpose.

And you're right – the filter on the name check can only catch so much. That's why you have to explain yourself when you actually go to DMV to sign up for your personalized plate.

Complete with Oakland's skull-and-crossbones stickers all over the back window.
