Gravatar What a "great" move. What they're doing is like what Proton is doing. Increase price of foreign brand car and makes local car looks cheap. This will make us not to respect local movie more and will cause more pirated stuff.

Gravatar So what? I still wouldn't watch any of the local shitass movies.

Gravatar Raising the price would be pretty silly. I rather they lower the price of local films, like, say, RM5-6, while Hollywood remains the same. Yup, that's what I want. I DO see the problems of having our own indie films costing as much as a Hollywood film ticket. Noooo!

Gravatar gua terasa bila u sebut pasal Robert McKee & Syd Field itu tau!

p/s: my review on cicakman is ikhlas dari hati ok!

peace bro!

Gravatar by right, they should be proposing to lower down the local movie tickets. Not maintain RM8-10. Perhaps a RM5 would be nice for them,

Like the saying goes, $$$$ = quality

Gravatar indeed, the price of local films is in fact too high, because the quality doesn't match.

Gravatar actually, Edmund, i wonder what our indies think of all this.

Gravatar I can only hope that they won't think of lynching me for that suggestion.

Gravatar if i can share my insight as a aspiring producer in the industry:

the problem that local movies face is the lack of places to show them. im not saying about cinema screens cos usually cinema screens dont cover the costs (calculate distributor, marketing).

hence, they try to do dvd - but then how many will buy local or even international dvd? on the other hand, overseas shows (eg hollywood) make monies from dvd & international cinema sales.

and because of all these problems, the malaysian movies dont have big budgets. and because of that - the movies may not be good. its a chicken & egg thing.

i think what we need to do is actually do what korea or even now taiwan does. we need to get good scripts, good funding, then sell worldwide (or asean wide for the start).... and then slowly, the production houses can go on their own and raise their own monies... producing good movies for a bigger market.

btw about hollywood vs local ticket prices in cinemas, i think it happens in overseas?

one thing i respect bollywood & korea for movie fans is their support local first in fact, i think many countries support local first for not only movies - there is this patriotism... but that should be another topic

Gravatar Qua Chee, thanks for your insights.

as for Bollywood and Korean movie fans, they support local because there's something worth supporting.

and i also have to disagree that Malaysian movies need bigger budgets to compete with Hollywood. like you mentioned, we need good scripts, good stories. and good stories don't necessarily need big budgets.
