If Senator Cantwell can't beat Santorum in a debate, well there's no hope for her in the fall. Senator Santorum - and it demeans the term "senator" to put it in front of his name - is the same cretin who has gone on record as saying, "If we allow gay marriage, why not allow beastiality?"
Of course, it's likely that the old RNC will have given Senator Rick his cheat notes; but this discussion should be somewhat like the debate between Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter in 1976. Or perhaps akin to the time that Ali fought George Foreman.
Nonetheless, it should make good television viewing. No one could ever say that Maria Cantwell isn't intelligent; and she should show that this evening, hopefully with a benefit to consumers across the country. Terry Parkhurst | Email | Homepage | 05.03.06 - 4:23 pm | #

I believe your authoritive voice voted against drilling in Anwar, which is one of the reasons we are in the trouble we are in. DennyK | Email | Homepage | 05.04.06 - 7:10 am | #

Oh yes, if we drilled in ANWR, we'd get about three percent of what we consume a year - or maybe it's daily - in petrol (gas and diesel). And that would come in about 10 years. Now how exactly would that have prevented the current situation?
Here's some names for you to remember Denny: Dodge Caliber SE, Honda Fit Sport, Hyundai Accent GLS, Kia Rio5 SX, Missan Versa 1.8SL, Suzuki Reno and Toyota Yaris S. They range in price from $14,560 to $15,500 (with options such as antilock brakes). Highway mileage (what most commuters run) varies from 30 to 40 miles-per-gallon. City mileage varies from 23 to 34 miles-per-gallon (when using five or six-speed manual transmissions). More information is in the May 2006 Car and Driver. Now if you, I and just half of American drove these kind of machines, instead of the 6,000 pounds of truckular jewelry many of us do, there'd be no need to even consider drilling in ANWR. And most likely, we'd never have gone into Iraq. Those are facts based on what we could do TODAY. We don't need to look to politicians to solve all our problems; although it is nice when they lead in the right direction. As the little guy in the old Pogo cartoon said, "We have met the enemy and he is us." Terry Parkhurst | Email | Homepage | 05.04.06 - 6:06 pm | #
