Did you notice that on the Court TV coverage of this, they consistently referred to him as a "biracial man", as in "Police beat up biracial man"? Any thoughts on that? I wonder if they yelled things like "Let's kick this biracial man's ass" while they were doing it?

lol. i haven't seen any of the tv coverage but i think it's actually crudely appropriate that Jude Jr. is bi-racial.
Jude, Jr. and his 'black' (Only Skip can say what percentage) male friend went to this white off-duty police officer heavy party with 2 white women but left soon after arriving after sensing some 'bad vibes.' (Question: seemingly these white women knew these dudes who have histories of beating up black people. I'm wondering why they thought it would be a good idea to bring black dates.) Anyway Jude Jr.'s presence as a product of miscgenation, even if undetected, positions him the quintessential threat to their tenuous white male racial confidence and, however obscured, the product of the interaction his presence conjured in these underdeveloped dirty cops minds that triggered the savage, ear shattering, bruising, ass whooping they laid upon him.
this was just a convoluted way to say that his bi-racial identity is as significant to his beating as it is irrelevant to his beating

"got me thinking about hipster irony again given that social location seems to wholly inform assumptions of intent."
Similarly, mashups or cheeky patronizing rap covers by white pop acts groups become a "new" social phenomenon now... Nevermind the fact that hip-hop dj's have been doing the same juxtaposing of songs for 30 years or that early rap groups were doing routines based on pop/rock songs.
There's a certain assumption about who's allowed to be savvy, who's allowed to be "meta", who's allowed to be ironic.
Society has been so hung up on black people representing the hypersexual and still doesn't give credit to hip-hop for getting intertextual. Pardon the rhyme.
And sorry for taking a tangent from your main topic but the comment about "assumptions of intent" rung a bell with all that "hipster" stuff still bothering me from last year.

I'm was completely unaware of this particular case of police brutality, however from what I've read in the commentary it seems that they tried to downplay the actual intent by playing the race card and labeling him "biracial". The fact that he was biracial does not make a difference in their favor, in fact I could argue that it may play a part. Sounds like a "reminder beating". Their is no better way to try & remind someone of where they stand or who they may be perceived as than to degrade them in any way humanely possible. On another note I'm upset about the fact that some police don't abide by the same laws that they are supposed to protect.

Er, what the hell was I talking about? Like Dessa I wasn't familiar with this case and don't know what frame of mind I was in when I posted so off-topic when I skimmed the post from work before.
Feel free to delete both my comments from this post.
