Helfgot's climax at the end of the songs are the best part. He has amazing endings.
Why would people not want to be seen there? Was it a mixed seating concert? Something else?

There was some mixed seating but that was not the issue. Their issue was that "es past nisht". If your not from Lakewood you may not understand the concept

Why would people not want to be seen there?
A few reasons:
They are hopelessly confused about right and wrong.
They think very highly of themselves.
They are worried what other people who are hiding from them might think of them if they managed to see them while they were hiding from each other.
Basically, no good reason. If someone felt for some odd reason that it would be wrong to go, don't go. Going and hiding is hyporcritical. But to be honest, I don't really expect the hypocricy to bother them too much.

I am not into chazanus at all, but it was probably less painful than the Giants game that your brothers watched!

As a lay observer, I thought last year's was better. I can't put my finger on what about was better. That is not to say that I did not thoroughly enjoy this one.

NY Jew:
I am certainly no expert, and have only minimal knowledge of Chazanus. I, like you, attended this as well as last year's performances and also felt that last year's was better. In my opinion the selections chosen for last year's show were better suited for Helfgot's style, voice and range.

The Aria he sang was from Puccini's Turandot. It was performed better than any Tenor around.

OB,
I'll take your word for it. I am unfamiliar with Opera. I was actually a little turned off by it although I knew to expect it.

He had a cold. he didn't have the same ease that usually has, and he definitely did not hit the same notes. You could see a strugglng look on his face. nevertheless, it was a beautiful performance.

Part of the excitement of a live concert is the not knowing what kind of performance you're going to get.
its the same in opera..do you think pavarotti was great every time her got up?
You can read many scathing reviews from times he flopped..
