I've never understood the cynicism with which "golf course management" is held - somebody needs to manage golf courses, and its far more likely to get you a job than something like History.

This is true - but haven't you wondered what it is about managing golf courses that can possibly take that long to learn about? And what happens to the golf course management graduate if the market for golf course managers collapses? Bit limiting...
But with a History degree - well, you can be a History teacher and, um, er...

I suspect that the students on that course may possibly be spending a small amount of that time in the pub...
But seriously, i'd imagine that a course like that would involve standard business studies, IT and economics. Perhaps some commercial law as well. Furthermore I suspect that such a course was only offered in a few universities, and the media was simply having a field day about such a course. The sad truth is most subjects at university are irrelevant for most jobs, all the employer wants to know is has the candidate got a degree, and what class...

Yeah, I remember graduating and finding either that or if they specified a particular specialism it was always science or maths. All my degree's good for is teaching the subject and understanding why my job's crap.

its not that bad, you could use history to become a historian or history lecturer at university or TV presenter if lucky
