"Plus I can down a bottle of Buckfast in one go."
Come on Shuggy -- I know this isn't true -- I have seen you in action -- no need to embellish your credentials in such a way. [insert stupid fucking smiley face here shit and that]

"post-defeat no doubt there'll be lots of arguments about whether to move left, or right"
There will not. Not in practice. Confirmation bias will see to that.
If the Tories win it will be because New Labour weren't Tory enough. So they will need to be more Tory. If New Labour win it will be because they were Tory enough, and they will need to be ever more Tory to keep their lead.

Also since when was the result of the next election a foregone conclusion for non-Oxbridge commentators?
The not-giving-a-shit constituency will decide the next election. Brown may still be here after it.

Brown wouldn't be long in office even if the Labour Party were to win the election. But I can't quite see Labour advertising that.

'People whining about collapsing standards in schools who can't spell'
Quite so. Forgive me, therefore, for pointing out it's one 'n' in 'Denis'.

Don't care. There should be two. He's the one spelling his goddamn name wrong. If a double 'n' was good enough for Dennis the Menace then it should be good enough for Mr McShane.

Yeah, force of habit - it's what I put on application forms under "Other Skills". D'ya think that's what's been stopping me get interviews?

Wow, good rant.
Methinks the good Shug is finally getting a bit cross.
I do like it when you're angry

""There is an alternative Labour narrative – whether "meta" or not I can't tell, since I don't know what meta means."
Couldn't he have tried consulting a dictionary before writing it?
Your quite right about Scotch politics, it is quite different from the English variety. Brown is fundamentally Scottish in the way he has acquired politcal power, when he asks the English electorate for their consent this time next year he will get his first dose of politique anglais.
Interesting that Brown didn't have the balls to stand against John Smith in 1994, was this deference to Smith's seniority? He would have been the same age Blair was when he became leader.
