Every time she puts up with abuse like that herself, she is setting the standard whereby similar abuse of all the other staff and pupils becomes tolerable. What is worse, no-one witnessing such a scene will retain any confidence in just where her school would draw the line. Teachers like her promote the mentality that anything goes, and she is actually boasting about running a school that no-one can be thrown out of.

I know - because she's an assistant head, for crying out loud! I was astonished when I discovered that. I have to say that as bad as it can get in Glasgow, the AHT willing to put up with that I have never met - thank goodness. I usually take a dim view of much of the CiF comment but at least on that occasion there were a few people on the thread willing to make the same point you've just made.

And that magic word "challenging". What a godsend it is. If she labels a child's behaviour challenging, it gets her out of having to say it's bad. Which then gets her out of having to do anything about it, and lets her cling to her "non-judgemental" self image.
The thing is, the children probably hate her. Not just the good kids who have to put up with the chaos she provokes, but all the kids. She isn't giving any of them, anything they need. She just walks away from it all and leaves the mess for everyone else.
