Tell me about your mother....

Gravatar This truly is one of the most moving "public" posts you have ever written. You are blessed to have known Andrew. You are wise to have learned the gentle lessons that Andrew taught.

I am blessed to know the man who embraces and shares these lessons with so many. I am wise to have said yes...to a shared future.

Thank you for this "made-me-cry" post.
Now I love an Andrew that I never met.

Gravatar This was absolutely beautiful. I have known a few "Andrew's" in my life too. I only hope that some day I can look back and see evidence in my life that my actions indicate i learned the lessons they taught in humility and Godly nature.

Gravatar funny. i just left a similar comment about a similar situation on one of my blog reads this morning. i never picked on this person though. i just regretted that my last words to this man were not pretty words, even after all the kindness he had shown me over the years---i was having a bad day that day. what a bitch. i remember all of the people that attended his funeral...and none of them were family members or people obligated to be there. they were people whose lives he'd touched through his daily life.

Gravatar *sigh*

I was about to make an entirely derrogatory remark on my own blog about this place, when I come over and read THIS!

I'm deeply touched and annoyed at the same time. Touched on this fine bit of writing and honest treatment of the subject matter (which I have deep connection with) yet annoyed that I was going to comment on the author(s) having such a high level of condescension. A level to rival my own, of course.

I'm okay. I like internal subconcious conflicts.
D.

Gravatar Everyone who reads your post will become a better person. Even if they're still mean, they're better. Thank you, dear doctors, for putting into words a moving and sensitive memory so the rest of us could share it also. As usual, and as always, I exit your blog just a little smarter than I was when I entered it.

Gravatar We're crazy so I linked to you from our blog. I know we will get better soon.

Gravatar This hits close to home...

We should all be so lucky to come to such a realization and most importantly, apply it to our daily lives. The lessons Andrew taught span throughout his entire lifetime, lessons of perseverance, of never taking things for granted, and purest love. He lived artfully, and his work endures.

Thanks for sharing this honestly moving piece.

Gravatar Damn you, Doctors. I HATE to cry. That's why I come here.

Gravatar To her: You know why I wrote this
Square1: That you too, knew an Andrew, speaks well of your life.
I- Better to learn the lesson, no matter when they are learned.
Digger- We shall see. As to level of 'condescension'- please. We are SC&A. You are not.
Mamacita- Thank you- really, thank you.
Jery- One can only hope.
Zee- We read you. We know you understand.
aka monty- Keep coming back, for better or worse.

Gravatar A special needs student in a school I worked in was being picked on. The parents of the culprits were called in and while most were defending their children's actions, one father told his son that he had to do more that just apologize to the boy. He told his son hehad to make an effort to be his friend, and find out what they had in common. So the boy did, and when the other children saw this, they followed. Tolerance was taught. The act of one father changed the course of what could have been a horrible experience for that little boy, and surprise, EVERYONE benefitted.

Gravatar SC&A - I have two adopted sisters. One of them is a special needs adult. I cannot tell you what she has been through - words just aren't enough. I have said this before and I will repeat it - all joking aside, you truly are a man with a huge heart. You are opinionated, harsh at times but you have ALWAYS demonstrated humilty and honesty as long as I've been reading your blog. Often, the question is asked, "What is the secret to success?" You know what? YOU have the answer. YOU "got" it. YOU "feel" it. YOU have in your own unique way just explained life. We get one time around, we can't go back, we can't see the road ahead, so we make the best of it - YOU are a shining example of that - YOU bring hope to me when it comes to human nature. If you feel this way, if you can "get" this lesson, then there is hope for so many others......there IS hope out there for all. Thank you - this post of yours meant more to me and others than you could ever phathom. Keep writing what

Gravatar Keep writing whats on your heart -you're touching people and touching hearts that other's could not reach -

Hugs as always, much love and forever peacefulness in your life,
Nikki

Gravatar That is a truly great post. Thank you for writing and sharing it.

Gravatar I worked as an assistant in special ed for a year. I worked with a very special little girl there named Jenna. Sure, she was a pain in the ass and hands down, the most stubborn person I ever met, but I still miss the girl and talk about her all the time. She had more spunk than anyone I've ever met.

Gravatar It sounds like Andrew had a short but very successful life. Thank you for sharing this.

Gravatar Incredible post! Thank you for sharing.

Gravatar But have you learned not to judge other people or put them down?

Gravatar That was a very moving story. The human race can be a conceited lot! There is much to learn from the Andrews of this world.

Gravatar Thank you for that story. We need more stories and people like that in the world.

Gravatar thank you.

sheer brilliance.

Gravatar I'm struck by the thought that we live in a time when the Andrews of the world may not even be born. Sorry to invite the polarizing subject of abortion to cast its' long shadow over such a lovely post and equally lovely responses...it's just too obvious to ignore. Who can tell the value of a life?
