The real problem with young men leaving college early or never attending is the very substantial reduction in the quality of NCAA men's basketball. This is especially evident in the Tournament, which is nowadays a second rate entertainment package. Almost 25 years ago, seniors Ewing and Olajuwon meet in the final game. That will never happen again. Eventually, the Tournament viewership and revenues will fall. That is what irritates the colleges and universities.
