The McCain campaign just threw Obama's historic speech out of the discussion. Do not underestimate the republicans. They are good at controlling the news. The McCain campaign had reporters believing Tim Pawlenty would be the nominee. Sarah Palin is the most popular governor in the country granted she has only been in office for 19 months. Most commentators said she was charming when she gave her speech today. The republicans get most male voters, with a woman on the ticket it will be easier to rally conservative women and try to pick off independent women to win the election. I heard today that Tony Perkins and the focus on the family group were jumping up and down by this pick. That is not good news for democrats given how effective evangelicals are at getting their believers out to vote.
This choice has forced me to strongly get on board the Obama campaign. Even after Obama's speech last night I was ambivalent about him. Palin was a good choice to rally republicans now I know I have to vote for Obama in November. If McCain wins it will be an absolute disaster for gay people all over the world.
66 days until the election. Please help DEFEAT Proposition 8 in California, Proposition 102 in Arizona and Proposition 2 in Florida. Please get the word out why Obama will be a better president than McCain. This election is too important to sit on the sidelines.

I do give McCain credit for his choice- it’s a solid attempt to win over the Clinton supporters - although her views are not in line in any way shape or form to Hillary’s, he thinks that the idea of having a female name there will do the trick.
Are people that stupid? McCain seems to believe they are and only time will tell if that is the case. I hope to think they are not, but then again, they were dumb enough to vote for George Bush, so I tend to be a bit cynical myself when it comes to that type of thing.

Well. This election is Obama's to lose. One question has yet to be answered by him. How is he going to pay for everything? He claims that he will sit down and review the budget "line by line" --Was I the only one who saw the flaw in this??? Congress didn't give Clinton line by line veto power, just like they didn't give it to Reagan, or Carter. Not to mention the federal budget is 2900 pages front and back. It would take his entire first term just to do that!

Palin didn't help McCain in the daily Gallup polls. Obama rose 8 points against McCain yesterday.
Josh, out of the three, Palin is the only one to have managed a budget, or have executive responsibilities. She blew the whistle on several Republican elected officials and was able to unseat them from their office.

I think they welcome Log Cabin hovering around approving of McCain/Palin because it gives them the defense that they aren't hateful towards gays. Of course LCR must show deference and also not "push their lifestyle". That is how the game is played. The Republicans are quite willing to set aside their moral edicts when victory is their goal. That is why they turn a blind eye towards Limbaugh's drug abuse and fornication, Matt Sanchez's gay sex, and even Foley and Larry Craig until it becomes too intolerable. As long as gays remain closeted or at least "eyes downward" in subservience and shame, the Republicans will welcome them with open arms to be used.
Mike, one little point. Alaska is the largest state, Texas is the largest in the lower 48, Cali comes in third in land mass.
Alaska has a huge economy, thanks to the oil industry, certainly larger than Bidens home state even with all the credit card companies that hide there.
With California's high taxes they are broke.
Texas has low taxes, no income tax and has a huge budget surplus.
Ron, it seems to me you are quite happy with the state of our country right now and how we are perceived throughout the world.
I don't know that Obama will be able to fix the mess Bush/Chaney has us in within the next 4 or 8 years. I certainly do not believe that McCain would effect any change in a positive direction.
My belief is that whoever takes power behind Bush will have a hell of a mess to fix and that will be the work he will be doing for the majority of the first four years of office. I just don't see things turning around in 4 8 maybe not even 12 years.
But with a democrat in the President's seat, I think it will move in the correct direction.

First of all, President Blowjob got that large surplus by gutting the Military, cutting the standing soldiers by half, cutting funding for almost all new equipment, using Officers as waiters at the Clinton dinners, and basically making all Military people feel less than human under his command. FYI, The Dept. of Education bowing to the protectionist teachers unions is why we are in the situation we are in our current sorry state. Public education in America is a sick joke, despite the fact that we have more per capita spending for education than any other country. I dislike Shrub intensely, but demanding standardized testing for students was a good move. Now, if we could just institute some sane level of standardized accountability for teachers, we might possibly make some progress. Our graduates math scores continue to fall below other western countries.
I find that the level of literacy and usability of young men I hire is seemingly worse each year. They seem to have more socialist inspired (false) self-esteem, but they are increasingly entitled and useless as workers.
Name one Congressman, Senate member, or high ranking government official who allows their child attend public school!

I believe we should adopt Israel's system of service, at least two years in the Military before one could be eligible to enter college.
