Actually, I think it's quite possible the republicans consider an 18-year-old a rising star. If he gives good soundbites, and spouts the correct lines, a closeted man can go far.

I've always assumed that YAF is basically a closet gay organization. Isn't that really the point of it? I think of people like Karl Rove and guys who seemed an awful lot like him when I was in college in the 80's. I mean, carrying a sign that says "Go Back in the Closet" pretty much says all you need to know about what they believe. They have decided to stay in the closet and create this faux-conservative persona as a way to hang out with the guys and seem real manly.
You have to nip these people in the bud. Today he's fronting for YAF, tomorrow he'll be the Roy Cohn of the 21st Century. To me, people like him are no better than a Black person passing for white and joining the Ku Klux Klan. (I'm not gay but I am Black and that's how I see it.) When someone is working against the rights of people just like him (or her -- Mary Cheney springs to mind, as do Clarence Thomas and Kenneth Blackwell), he needs to be stopped dead in his tracks.
Seriously, if the kid is carrying signs that say "Go back in the closet," hell yeah he should be outed. Why the f**k should he get a free ride on the Hypocrisy Train at the expense of those of us who are out? Sheesh!
If he's gonna crap all over me and my family & friends, then I have absolutely zero problem with applying his own zero tolerance policy back on this zero. If you wanna tell people how to live their lives in terms of all-or-nothing, then, by god, all-or-nothing is good enough for you too.

They were sending 21 year olds to Iraq to run the finance and governmental management offices from the Green Zone as political operatives if they towed the neo-con line hard enough. If you look at his Myspace page friends, you'll notice the young fellow with the rifle: That kind of image is being discussed on other sites. The (almost inevitable) hubristic fall of the GOP is almost certainly going to be followed by the rise of a new 1990's era anti-government, rightwing violence, ala Tim McVeigh, etc... That is something we should all watch out for. These nuts are dangerous now that they control power; watch how violent they become when they lose power.

It is funny how the Republican party is The Party of the secret homosexual. But there is a more sinister side to this. My grandmother (may she rest in peace) was a child of immigrants -- and she felt the pain of oppression as a child (having to move to Canada to escape anti-German bigotry during WWI). She was also 50% Irish-American, so she had that to contend with too. She was anti-Religion (actively anti-Religion), pro-choice, anti-Vietnam, etc. etc. But damn if she didn't work hard to be the perfect Republican suburban housewife. She was going to "pass" and hard. She saw Republicanism as access to stability, money and power. And she wanted that. So she adapted. And none of her grandchildren or children were going to point out her hypocrisy and get away with it. Republicans trade on their WASPy insider lineage as a recruitment tool for those ashamed of who they are and their past. It's worked for at least 70 years and I don't see it going away.

The trouble with an outing from a gay newspaper, it doesn't have much impact, except in our community. Look at the recent Anderson Cooper outing by OUT, and on the cover no less. It just fizzled.........Unfortunately. The last big outing story was the long dead Malcolm Forbes, 20 or so years ago. Even Pete Williams outing didn't get much play...
I feel sorry for the kid - he's been told his entire life that what he feels is evil and disgusting. And of course it is not.

There is quite a bit of truth to that. From Terry Dolan to Matt Sanchez. These type are not self-hating at all but instead consider themselves superior to "dirty gays" or "weak faggots". No. A lot of you are misunderstanding Tyler. He is part of a new generation of 'conservative' GOP gays. They actually believe they can simultaneously demonize and rant against "faggots" while also sucking cock and rimmming other men. Remember when California had the anti-gay Proposition led by Pete Knight? Well at the same time, some gay guy who called himself a Titanic expert was openly working for Knight's anti-gay campaign. They say stuff like homosexuals shouldn't have special rights, etc. It is a very freaky and dangerous path. But they are trying to float this new mentality and the GOP leaders love it because it gives them cover for anti-gay issues.
I'd hate to be held responsible for just about anything I did at 18, but I guess, given the kind of sinister people who have this kid in their clutches, we don't have much choice. I think the trick is to point out the hypocrisy of Tancredo and his zombies, and see if there isn't a way to show this kid some alternatives to the way he's behaving right now. There might be some hope for him, yet, but it's tough for someone that young to buck his family and his friends and everything he's been taught even if doing so would be a step toward Mental Health...

The person who would best be able to comment on this is the author Scott Lively. I would love to hear his analysis. He is extremely anti-gay and wrote the book 'The Pink Swaztika' in which he wrote about homosexuality in the SS. He knows intimately about those gays who are attracted to fascism and actually derive a sexual stimulus from ridiculing, bashing, raping, and even murdering other gays. This is the same syndrome as Tyler Whitney.
Tancredo needs to be asked point blank:
1. Would you allow your daughter to date a wholesome young conservative man like your webmaster Tyler Whitney?
2. What specifically makes one of your staffers, the best-of-the-best, a founder of several Republican youth groups, a threat to unit cohesion of our military?
3. Mr. Tancredo, of course we all sin. But what about a person who unrepentantly embraces that sin and claims it's normal? Wouldn't that person be in fact embracing and rationalizing evil itself? Would you hire an alcoholic who attended alchoholic pride festivities celebrating drunkeness(like Tyler is attending gay pride in DC)?
4. Mr. Tancredo, if you had a staffer who openly celebrated a lifestyle of Devil worship would you still welcome them into your campaign because it is a private issue of faith?
5. If Tyler Whitney develops AIDS from engaging in male/male anal intercourse, will your campaign still embrace him for acts that were done in private?
Tyle calls himself a "paleo-libertarian", that is the same school of thought as Justin Raimundo (remember him). Raimundo is 'out' and gay yet was the head of Pat Buchanan's presidential campaign office in SF back in '94 (?).
This is not some confused kid. He is consciously practicing an ideology that tries to merge what is considered anti-gay with gay. He is not now going to magically improve his viewpoints. In fact, I would imagine he is going to ride this publicity to increase his cache among the Right.

He needs to meet Tom Beddingfield. Remember when Pete Knight was running anti-gay Prop 22 in California. I am serious here. This young man has been outed and will need support. He may, in fact, not have a home to return to. Since he's in DC, this might be a great opportunity for the Log Cabin Republicans to step up and offer to mentor him. Though I find it a contradiction in terms to be Republican and gay, they may have enough of a conservative mind set to actually reach out to him. He needs to understand his sexuality, realize that he is, in fact, a member of a minority group, and only well adjusted gay mentors can help with that. But they did get a couple of emails disputed it, so they removed it from their story. Tyler Whitney himself wouldn't confirm anything or reply -- if he is so much in a different place nowadays and changed his positions, why didn't he respond and why doesn't he say so?

I don't take psyops lightly and readily admit that the GOP freaks are experts at dirty tricks. This is clearly not one of them. You didn't follow the timeline. A CONSERVATIVE site called 'Conservative Dossier' was the one that outed him. Then the journalist who Mike interviewed contacted the past female publicity chairman of the college Republicans. That lady, a friend of Tylers, confirmed that he came out to her and others as gay. In other words he has already been out for about two months. In reality, the so-called ruthless gay activists have been TOO CAREFUL and TOO RETICENT in this case.

That is a good point. That is why these things need to be exposed while they still have relevance. The strategy of the Republicans is just to hunker down and let this stuff pass. They know the media will give them cover as soon as possible. Luckily people like Michelangelo Signorile and Mike Rogers have gradually begun to re-frame the issue so it is no longer a double standard.

I looked at the scrubbed website and think I have some insight. This kid is very, very attractive. People that beautiful have a very difficult time in life, contrary to what you might think. [I'm 6'4", a former model and speak from experience.] People will say anything to beautiful people to get in their pants. And they'll agree with anything you say. You never get any genuine feedback; the world becomes unreal and you learn not to trust anyone. In my experience, the only people beautiful teens tend to trust is family, and unfortunately this kid's only rock is his gay-hating family.
