This is twisted, these people have confused The freedom that we as Americans have and have intertwined it with Christianity. The two are Soo different. This theology is pretty much saying Jesus died on the cross so Americans could be free. And so Jesus died on the cross so the people in Darfur aren't? Jesus' death on the cross has nothing to do with freedom of speech. This is laughable as far as it is so asanine. It is heart-breaking that somehow people this powerful act as a voice for Christianity when they have no concept and understanding of what the bible says.

My head is about to explode.
For the information of the factually challenged, Jesus was not involved in the American Revolution nor was he involved in any of the social change (i.e., the Enlightenment) that led to the establishment of our secular republic.
Jesus never said one single thing in support of free speech or any of the Constitutional rights that we enjoy today. Either he had no opinion on them, or the very concept of freedom of thought was alien to him and his culture.
The fundies have missed the entire point of Kathy's statement. So many actors, musicians, etc. accept awards and throw in a "thanks" to God, or Jesus or whoever - and more often than not, they are insincere. Come on.... do you really think that rapper whose music is full of profanities and violence really has Jesus/God/Whoever in his heart when he writes or performs that crap?
I am a great admirer of the teachings of Jesus, but I won't call myself a Christian because I don't buy all the mystical, supernatural nonsense that is part and parcel of the Christian creed. The virgin birth? Impossible. The resurrection and ascencion? Not very likely. Besides.... is any of that really important to the point of Jesus' life and work? Does one really have to accept wild claims of divinity to follow and appreciate the call to peace, the call to love one another and the call to love God? I don't think so, and my reading of scriptures leads me to think that Jesus didn't either.
Try again, Faux News. No cookie for you on this one.

In a way Lauren Green is stating our governments position regarding the Iraq occupation better than the president does.
We - America - act as if we are doing missionary work that will bring Jesus to the sinners.
This is all about preserving "our way of life" and regarding criticism of Christianity to be hate speech.
There is no difference between America and Christianity to these people.
The holy trinity: America, Christ, and Capitalism.

I'm a Jew, but I gotta say, I nearly fell off the couch laughing. Good for her. Hell, Jesus would probably be laughing!

OMFG. How come Jesus' dying on the cross didn't give freedom to the people in certain other parts of the world?????
Some people are just plain and simply wacko.

Jack, don't'cha know? Jesus (actually Geee-zus, according to almost any fundie preacher on this Sunday morning) is America's tribal god!
Waitasec - I should clarify. Geeezus isn't the tribal god of all Americans, but just the right-thinking ones, the ones who would never dream of smoking marijuana in Muskogee, who know that the government's authority should be respected and heeded if a Republican is in charge, but who claimed Charlton Heston as their President when Clinton was in the White House.
Geeezus is their tribal god, and he will lead them in the fight against libruls and Muslims and Meskins, probably in that order.

Too bad none of the "stars" have the guts to denounce Allah. Everyone is really brave until it's Muslims facing them.
