crutchley and buse - two peas in a pod...
why would any of you still continue to support MANHUNT?

Gravatar As I commented earlier, the idea that this is some kind of "gotcha" story is absurd.

Just as it is completely aware of its pregnant teens and sees no contradiction, the religious right is perfectly aware of the gays in its ranks. Hell, that's why they created the 'ex-gay' movement--to *keep* these people as members of their church. You should research that material sometime--it's very seductive and homoerotic, and that's done purposefully--so as not to lose people from the church.

Having gays among them doesn't make them recoil--it makes them think they are doing good work. Just like a pregnant teen keeping the kid is proof that they are people of their word.

Gravatar What's weird is that the Boston Herald had reported at the time that Crutchley regretted the contribution, had switched to supporting Obama, and had written an emotional apology to his partners at Manhunt. Either the Boston Herald is totally lying or Politico is lying.

McCain’s campaign seems to be embarrassed, also: Crutchley heard that his contribution was being returned, and the Herald reported that Jeff Grappone, a spokesperson for the McCain campaign, had not returned phone calls.

Crutchley’s response to his money being handed back to him, reported the Herald, was to plan on giving the funds to Obama’s campaign.

Said Basile of Crutchley, "He said, ’If John is too good for my money, I’ll give it to Barack."

Said Basile, "Someone had a reality check."

Basile also said that Crutchley had written a letter to the site’s employees. Basile characterized the letter from the former Chair of the company as "touching."

Gravatar ezky: "the religious right is perfectly aware of the gays in its ranks. Hell, that's why they created the 'ex-gay' movement--to *keep* these people as members of their church ...

This is totally incorrect. They have not pressured Mary Cheney for treatment, nor John Schlafly, Matt Sanchez, Jeff Gannon, among many. They use homosexuals to perpetuate and reinforce the closet by insisting that they support the veil of shame by silence about their lives (while the rest of the GOP celebrates and literally parades their sex partners on stage).

Gravatar politico is owned by a bushie supporter. draw your own conclusions.

Gravatar When I heard that the McCain campaign was returning a donation of that size, I was shocked. Republicans are notoriously greedy when it comes to campaign contributions and the thought that they'd return it on some real or perceived moral issue in not factual.

I know an elderly woman who gave $30k to the WRONG campaign. Somehow she got confused about names and sent her check to McCain rather than the DNC. She stopped payment on the check, issued a letter apologizing for her mistake and canceling her mistaken donation.

The McCain Campaign Financial people threatened to sue her for the stopping of her check and tried to con her into allowing her gift to stay. She refused and had to hire counsel to get them off of her back! The idea of threatening someone with legal action for rescinding their donation - typical republican cheap money-grubbing tactics, IMHO.

As for Manhunt's chairman (former) shoveling that kind of money to the GOP - talk about bitting the hand that feeds you so very generously! Absurd! Wonder if Manhunt gives Mark Buse his account for free? Apparently it's an account that gets a LOT of use... so we've heard.

Gravatar I wonder if any hypocrisy on the part of the candidates for whom they vote will ever seriously discourage the religious right. They supported Bush and he never particularly advanced their agenda. They were reluctant to support McCain, but a little VP game-changer changed that. Now that they've learned about Buse just as they've learned about all sorts of other cases of homosexual hanky-panky, do you really think they'll stay home on Election Day?

Faith springs eternal in the Fundie breast.
They never are, but always to be blest.

With apologies to Alexander Pope.

Gravatar I wonder what proof there is that McCain kept the Manhunt money. The report that he had returned the money had to have leaked from the McCain campaign itself. Looks like they are trying to play both sides of the issue.
