Anyone who doesn't think Batman is a superhero is a loooooney tune. They need to check their definition at the door. Besides, one of the things they show him doing all the time really is just impossible. Show me any object in the world that you can attach a rope to, throw, get to fly in a long arc and then, at the very end, suddenly spin about in a tight circle and wrap around something? No way. Batarangs do this constantly. IMPOSSIBLE!
Anyway, someone asked me for my definition of a superhero... so I went looking on-line and didn't like any much... though yours is funny.
I thought in particular about costumes. I decided costumes are really more symbols for the fact that superheroes set themselves outside or beyond normal society. The costumes are an emblem for this separation.
It's my deep thought for August.
here's the def I came up with.
superhero: anyone with such exceptional powers, resources, technology, apparati, knowledge or ability that it enables them to act outside the law, for the benefit of mankind, justice or some other higher virtue in a way extraordinarily beyond the capability of others and without the general support of society; capable of accomplishing feats any normal person would consider completley impossible with regularity, generally primarily concerned with others of comparable ability but opposite bent.
