I was gonna blog about it, too, but you pretty much summed up my general feelings. Yup, I pretty much hated it.
I'm not sure whose ill-conceived, poorly executed death was the most ill-conceived or poorly executed: I'd say Cyclops', because I didn't realize until 90 minutes later that he was actually dead, and not just a victim of an editing fake-out. But then Magneto and Prof. X sucked, too, because they were essentially undone by a pair of "OMG! Twist for possible spin-off!" scenes bookending the credits. Xavier's was extra dumb because they had to insert a baffling scene of him explaining how you can transfer your consciousness to an old guy on TV to his class. Jean Grey's sucked too, because she had nothing to do except stand around a lot and say "KILL ME" every once in a while. And Rogue suffered from soul death, since she had no role in the movie except to intentionally take the cure so she could make whopee to Iceman, who will break up with her next week to hook up with Kitty. I hated that so much. But I guess it doesn't matter, since that Magneto scene told us that she'll get her powers back anyway.
It's odd, because leaving the theater I kinda remember thinking "Hey, that was bad, but it could have been worse," but after Keith and I made a laundry list of 100 individual things that sucked, we realized that nah, not really, it was about as bad as possible.
