Very good article, Simon. I agree on you almost entirely. The only problem is that you sort of discount a very normal part of human nature, Curiosity about the other. I am always wondering, Hm, what's he/she like in person, and that extends to their eating habits, sexual persuasion, family life, religious and political beliefs, etc.

Being curious about others is normal, and the first step to acceptance and tolerance.

Simon,

BRAVO.

I totally agree with what you say.

Gravatar At the heart of this essay is a major problem.

"I had to repress my sexuality growing up." How awful. But maybe that is actually a blessing.

Then you quote an ex-gay (well of COURSE he'd back you up). I can use the same sort of logic and claim that I'm an ex-straight, and that God gave me an unease in straightness, therefore everything is peachy.

Wrong on both counts.

Evolution favors the selfish: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ The...he_Selfish_Gene

Homophobia isn't historical in and of itself, but it is part of a history where humanity rejects what it perceives to be a competing "other."

We are all of nature, despite claims to the contrary, and social struggle will continue as long as the selfish nature persists. In other words fuck you, I'm getting married

Gravatar Homosexuality is about deception...
