This seems a fine description of the movie, which I have not seen and do not intend to see due to its clearly objectionable character. Why a movie making fun of an underdeveloped Muslim nation was thought to be a good investment was a mystery to me, but the comments here go some way to explaining the phenomenon.

The movie has been banned from every Arab country except Lebanon - based on its gross-out humor that is proving troublesome for censors. "It's vile, gross and extremely ridiculous," said Yousuf Abdul Hamid, censor with Dubai's Ministry of Information.
However, the movie is reported doing good business in Kakhazitan.

Re 'whatever happened to humour?', touche. But I was irritated at how much hype the movie got, the slavish, even fawning praise. It certainly makes you wonder, considering it's not funny or original.
Borat/ Cohen is like the schoolyard bully, insulting everyone with impunity. There's nothing endearing about him, like there is with Seinfeld or the Marx Bros.
And deconstructing the movie is like cleaning up an archeological find and putting it in context. My justification. SJ

It's rather sad to see how far off the mark most Americans are about this movie, and about what Cohen is trying to do. He's not making fun of Kazakhstan or African-Americans or homosexuals or anyone other than YOU... and for those of you who don't see that, your intelligence must be questioned.

What a juvenile and cowardly thing to do, delete a post that challenges your attitudes and premises instead of trying to deal with the challenge.
You really are a puppet on a string!

Simon,
The thing that struck me about the movie before it even came out was the level of hype and PR coverage. Borat was EVERYWHERE, continuously with almost everyone singing his praises. My first inclination was to wonder who bankrolled him and who stood to profit from his success. I have not seen the movie except in clips and find the stereotypes repugnant. If these same caricatures were made of Jews, especially by Arabs/Muslims, I have no doubt the Jewish community would not just dismiss it as good clean fun.
BTW, the clip I saw of the bar scene where they sing "Throw the Jew Down the Well" was not an example of racism in my opinion. I think the crowd "got it" in much the same way as knowing that Randy Newman's "Short People" is not really about hating short people.

Always distrust an "artist" who tells you that if you don't like his "work" you're unintelligent. Gentiles are way too tolerant of Jewish malevolence, and way too passive in allowing these Jewish reprobates to pass themselves off as bastions of enlightenment and sophistication, when in reality they are nothing but a bunch of knuckle dragging hoodlums in $100 suits.
Sasha-Baron Cohen is a murderer, and he'll go to his father soon enough.
