I agree with you sister, I think sometimes men are harsh on women and they do not think about what they should do to fix the problem instead of making the women pay for their weaknesses.
An example I have was when I was talking with a friend of mine about Niqab while Ihram and how I thought that this is wrong, he told me that this is fitna and some men can not help themselves to look. I told him, so you want the women to wear niqab and disobey a very clear order from the prophet because some men are weak and can not hold their desires. Unfortunately this is the attitude among people but in shaa Allah with more knowledge people can get better.

Don't waste your time protesting and signing petitions. It is a done deal.
Women count for nothing, or very little in Islam, in case you haven't noticed.
I suggest you go back and write about how wonderful Islam is and all the rights women have, instead. Keeps you out of trouble and busy so you won't have to think about reality.
What a religion!

I'm glad the proposal didn't go through. I hope that next maybe the police there will relax. Or that they remove the toilets from over Sayyida Khadija's grave.

Here is a link to the Arab Nwes article about how they decided not to implement this "proposal."

"Women welcome rejection of Haram prayer proposal"
My main thought is that they would have had not a lot of people protested. But we all did, and they had to listen.

I am not a Saudi, but I am an Arab Moroccan), I am Muslim and I have lived all my life in Europe. I feel a great sense of pride that women in KSA are speaking up against the tyranny of a few decadent male sects that seeks to demonize women. Restricting women's movements in the House of God is abominable. I was there last year and my heart ached already when I saw how little rights I had compared to my husband & brother (who accompanied me; and I stress that, it is I who took them there and not the other way). I do not wish to return to Madinah because I felt treated like cattle simply because a female. Women are only allowed into the Rawdah at certain times and even then, the chaos is such. My dear Nzingha, I applaude your courage and your initiative. Your society, your country (and perhaps the whole Islamic nation), have a long way to go. It is with people like you that you can achieve a better tomorrow. I hope that the restrictions you are referring to will never happen. And I know that when I return to the Holy Ka'aba, I shall not obey the rules made by men, to shield the deviance of men. Now, to answer Mr John Kactuz; Sir, your clear lack of knowledge of Islam is blatant. It is not the Koran that states that women shall have no rights. The ways we are condemning in this forum are made and upheld by a minority of masculine, chauvinistic and mysogynist sect that is far away from Islam. Please condemn the autocratic rule of that sect; for today it restricts women because they're women, tomorrow it shall restrict you because you are Christian, Jewish or gay! You have shown a great deal of condenscendence in your posting but have not expressed a view except to insult Islam: that's pointless and lame.
