Wayfarer-
Chile 1973- The U.S. sponsors a military coup by General Augusto Pinochet ousting democratically elected President Salvador Allende because of his connections with Marxism and Socialism. Pinochet went on to become one of the world's most notorious dictators, murdering approximately 3,000 people and torturing close to 27,000.
Guatemala 1954- The U.S. orchestrates the overthrowal of democratically elected President Arbenz because of his connections to socialism, installing a dictator and leading to over 30 years of civil unrest and the deaths of 100,000 Guatemalans, mostly native mayans and other indigenous peoples.
Iran 1953- Democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh is removed from power through a plot ochestrated by US and British Intelligence officers when he tried to nationalize Iran's oil industry. He is replaced by Shah Pahlavi who crushed the civil liberties and destroyed the religious freedom of the Iranian people until his topple by Ayatolloah Khomeini in 1979.
I could go on and on.....
Needless to say, the U.S. is only interested in democracies when they can control them and they have no problem with dictators as long as they can control them as well. The "democratic mission" in Iraq is a load of **** too, as history shows that the U.S. only supports democracy when it is expedient.

Control's the word alright! Global control is what the US's after, and anything to attain that is welcome, whether it be democracy, theocracy, dictatorship, secularism, fundamentalism, opportunism or whatever. The means dont matter just so long as the end is achieved: so unlike the Islamic worldview where ends AND means must be morally justified.

I'm worried that the peace process will be even worse now with this being spun as the "palestinians are all terrorists" when it isn't the case. I'm worried that b/c of this public image it will give Israel lisence to run havoc without worrying about public image concerns perhaps their only self-check.

Good comments ya'll. That's what i'm worried about too Aisha. And it gives nonMuslims another thing to say "look at those crazy Muslims killing each other again". I can't believe how united Muslims can be sometimes. If it's not sectarian, it's something else. :-/
