Gravatar Did animal control come? They're not good about being prompt in our city.

"I'd rather die an unsuspecting death than see the freak that's gonna get me" LOL. I had to laugh out loud because that is exactly the way I react when I hear afunny noise. I freeze in place.

By the way 'm curious, how is it for you to not do the Santa thing with the baby. Did you grow up doing that? I was curious because I know that is such a big part of most kids childhoods in the US and so probably you did all those traditions. Is it tough to not do those now?

Gravatar They didn't. The police called me back at like 1 am and i was too tired to deal with them. They said "we'll come get the animal if you can physically see it, if not, you need to call some private company that charges a million dollars". I was too tired to deal with it all so figured i'd wait to morning and see what happened. It's been semi quiet. Hopefully he'll get out okay.

Regarding Santa...it is hard a little to give up that stuff because i never got to do a lot of crafty stuff with my parents and i always thought i'd do that stuff with my kids you know. Like making ornaments, decorating stockings and trees, etc. I figure i'll just transfer that desire over to eid and make eid a huge deal. I haven't figured out exactly where i stand on the whole christmas thing. I don't think Christmas is a religious holiday but i'm not comfortable with parts of it because it's actually more pagan than christian. It's weird when half my family celebrates it so i get them presents and stuff. LD is going to be a bit confused but i don't plan on saying "we can't celebrate christmas" either. I need to figure out exactly where i stand and how to muslimize it a little bit. I just want to do the crafty stuff and leave the rest be. Last year we made haleem all day, then went out and looked at lights. We'll probably do the same this year. Eid will be fun though with his cousins and stuff.

Gravatar The mention of Haleem...oohh i love it.

Gravatar I feel the same way about Christmas. I think I'll allow my children (Insh'Allah) to receive gifts from their grandma, etc., but we won't celebrate it in our home, but go to Grandmas, instead.

Gravatar I like the holiday stuff like exchanging gifts and the pretty lights and wreaths and don't want to give that up, but I could care less about Santa personally. I think it is kind of sick to lie to kids about stuff like that; it bugs me.

Wayfarer, you're tagged it, if you want to play - see the meme on my blog insha'allah.

Gravatar Salamaat,

Gravatar Cute pic of squirrerly santa As for Christmas, celebrating the birth of Isa ibn Maryyam is a good way to explain it to kids.

Ya Haqq!

Gravatar We don't do anything for Christmas. My family lives too far away and really doesn't include us in anything so that isn't an issue. I plan on just doing snowflake and snowmen type stuff to decorate with.
