We should, maybe, also ban building mosques in Switzerland until we can do the same in Saudi Arabia.
Alas, as one might expect, the do-gooders will see this as 'infringement on the freedom of religion'. But actually, banning the Quran in Europe might be the right thing if we also ban "Mein Kampf" and a few other of these elusive, 'racist' books.

Yet, I do believe that banning the construction of mosques would be an unacceptable violation of individual liberty. I do not need to ask the Saudis' permission to defend liberty in my country. We do not cut the hands of theives either.

The construction of mosques will be still allowed, even if building mosques shall be banned some day. However, I strongly agree with you: A liberal society should not relate its regulation with those of iliberal ones.

We don't, actually. But sometimes, you need to ask for something in return. If somebody has a liberty here, we have the liberty over there as well. Else, we give them everything and get nothing in return.
To return to the subject - even in the Sultanate of Brunei, when I checked the last time, there were churches, and that's not exactly a Christian country.
Liberty is not a one-sided thing, and it's warranted to ask for some liberties in return to those we give them, regardless whether they have oil or not.
