I saw the movie Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. The thing that struck me the most about it was the discussion between Poitier's character and his father about a son's obligations to his father and a father's obligations to his son. I can't bring my self to watch Guess Who though. Bernie Mac is da bomb when it comes to comedy but I have zero interest in seeing Kutcher in anything.
And I seriously doubt that interracial love (that sounds so cheesy) is all that taboo any more. We see the results of it everywhere. All of the light skinned black folk we see on TV and in movies had to get their "light" from somewhere.
And yeah why is it that "any product of a white-black interracial union must be black"?

When I was in line to vote last November, we had just that conversation. Several black women refused to concede that I could consider my children (5: 1-boy, 4-girls) anything other than black.
That's the saddest part to me. After America took so many years to get these white racists in check (as much as we can,) now we'll see the pendulum swing the other way. There is currently little public disapproval of black racism.
I've gotten off. I know not what others may do, but as for my family...

Found you via LaShawn, interesting topic. As a black woman who lives in Minnesota (via Texas), which probably has the highest percentage of interracial relationships in the US, I find this topic very timely. Although I am in a relationship with a black man, many of my sisters up here are alone, while I see many black men with white women.
Haveing conflicting feelings about interracial dating myself that I am trying to over come, I think that a lot of my friends who are single are fiercely loyal to black men. I also have talked with several interrracial couples and specifically the white women in those relationships and came away with the impression that it was much easier for the women to bring home a black man than it would be for a white man for take home a black woman.
I have seen black women and white men here where I live but fewer and more far between than black men and white women.
I think my friends would be more open to dating non-black men if they felt they wouldn't be treated as stereotypes. Several friends have gone on dates with non-black men and felt that the men treated them as over sexed hot mamas..
Well, I think I'll stop rambling now but good article/topics...

Thanks Tiffany for the heartfelt comments. Black guys are cool, why wouldn't black women prefer them?
That said, white guys are pretty cool too. I hope that your friends don't let the idiots get in their way.
It is my sincere wish that everyone finds that one special person, no matter what color they are!

"I think that a lot of my friends who are single are fiercely loyal to black men."
I find the whole idea of being loyal to your [fill in the appropriate racial/ethnic group] men to be very odd. Where does that idea come from? What's the point? When looking for a mate why do you need to be loyal to anyone but yourself?
