Ken, that is how you know it is genetic. Although I have no security clearance, it appears the the don't ask don't tell policy could create an inherent security risk. Out and open is a better security policy. Besides, what makes the military different from fire houses, police and other civilian intelligence agencies?[serious question] You can't make a moral argument when your job is to kill people. [Let me say I am not against that either.] That is inherently immoral and one of the BIG 10. If you are straight and know it, there is no problem.

Balance that with the risk that the openly gay guy is going get the s**t beaten out of him when it becomes known. During my time in command of a squadron, we had a guy say the "phrase that pays". My biggest fear was getting him off of the ship before he took an assisted header off the starboard catwalk one night...........

People only think they have gotten used to women. In reality the struggle continues. Plus, 99 and 44% of the crew does not want to f**k a gay guy. The same does not hold true when comes to women on board. Apples and Oranges pal.
