Hey there fellow anti-corporate Midwesterner,
I've got a question for you--what is it about the Schell's beer? I don't drink it and haven't been to the Turf Club in five years, so I may be missing something. When I was young, "meat market" referred to a sleazy bar where men went to pick up women based on their...er...attributes and perceived readiness to have sex. There must be some other meaning, since I assume that an ad boasting "we don't serve our beer in creepy bars" wouldn't be offensive.

Call it a suspicion, but i rarely ever hear "meat market" as a description of a het bar, but rather the gay bar scene (Saloon, Gay 90s, etc...). I suspect that it was unintentional...but it did struck me the wrong way.
Irony of it all is that Schell's makes Grainbelt Premo, which most definitely is consumed in sleezy bars both het and queer.
