Wow, everything sounds amazing (except for the rudeness, of course)!! Even the whole censorship thing sounds pretty cool. It would be really neat to experience something like that.
I totally know what you mean about getting spoiled in Japan. Every time I leave this country, I have a really hard time readjusting to the service industry in, well, basically anywhere else in the world! C'mon, people, you're being paid to serve us -- the least you could do is smile!! (>

Like you, I am looking forward to getting out of the city for awhile. Penticton may not be quite as exotic as Mongolia. Still, there will be some very odd local rituals taking place this week.

I hope I didn't give a bad impression of China. It was amazing and anyone who's interested in history and politics would be in heaven!
I think it will be good to eventually get to Vancouver. I still miss Japan terribly but it will be nice to reconnect with good friends back home.
