Rogers is out, and McEwen didn't finish on time. Those withdrawals are a little sad.
But now... playing the conventional wisdom that says we'd have a clearer picture this afternoon:
Boonen is 58 minutes back. Toast.
Vino can't step up -- he's leaning on a teammate with a "broken butt".
It's going to be another disappointing tour for the French, after all. No American's going to win this year, either.
But none of the favorites are sticking their necks out. Are they still waiting to play, or is it time to shred up the CW?

Like toasring the Green jersey he will win in Paris! Boonen also has an outside shot at Yellow, if he can get in a big break like Perriero then time trial like a scalded cat.

I've got my fingers triple crossed hoping that Rassmussen holds the yellow until Saturday's TT.
I want to see "El Pollo" try to ride a TT like a "scalded cat" while trying to hang on to the golden fleece.
This needs to happen. Make some calls.

Yea, I don't think that time lost means a thing for Boonen so long as he keeps his points advantage over the other sprinters and makes the time cut for each stage.
And I think that the French are probably over the moon for the Tour this year with the performance of Moreau.

I was disappointed in ValVerde and Evans today. If they would've worked with Moreau instead of riding his wheel, they could've put more time into Vino, Leipheimer et al. That chase group of 7 acted like masters racers, chasing down Moreau repeatedly, only to sit up and not do any work. Then when Val Verde sprinted around Moreau for 3rd place at the end, I was ticked off...

Can you win the green jersey if you abandon? Another day like today in the Pyrenees, and QSI will have to move on.

get something straight people, the real winners today are the ones that finished #1 and #2. Mayo rode brilliant, probably the best of the bunch. Remember, this guy can TT! Moreau kept doing shithead attacks, one after the other until his group nearly came to a stand still. who is going to work with someone that attacks you every 15 feet? Long steady climbs are about rythem and chris was fucking with it. moreau's ride was a big show with little to show - typical french "panache".
Now what's this about the fatty 50, I'm in!

Mayo rode brilliant? He raced for 2nd place. He's not that good of a TT'er...Mayo and Contador would put in shithead attacks also. What was Moreau supposed to do? Rarely would anyone else take over the pacesetting for him, so he'd try to get away, they'd chase him down, then they'd all sit behind his wheel. Bunch of friggin pussy's....

I hope a.kruse is kidding, because Boonen is not in contention in the GC at this point, nor is he well known as a stage racer, climber, or a rider who can even finish the tour.
I am not dogging the man (unlike some others), I'm just pointing out that the current situation is not playing to his strengths. If it was just Boonen and Rasmussen, and they only had the time trial stages left, and it was Boonen head-to-head with El Pollo, then he might have a chance.

Champs, you do know that Boonen at no point ever intended to go for the overall in the Tour right?
When you state that Boonen is "toast", what are you referring to?

I guess I misunderstood his role, but the question is still out there: does it matter how many points he's got if he can't finish?

No it doesn't, but Boonen has finished the Tour in the past. He finished almost 3 hours down in GC in the 2004 event. While he only placed 6th in the green jersey competition, his victory in the final sprint assured that his Tour was a success.

I never implied I thought boonen was going for GC (that's a delusion limited to Euroskibby) just that no one has a f*cking clue what you're talking about, champs.... (i'm not the only one who was confused)
I would wait till boonen actually drops out before assuming he will. like smithers said, he's finished before, and it doesn't matter how "toast" he is in a tt or a mountain stage when he smokes the best on the cobble pavers in the shadow of the Arc.

As for leaving everyone clueless and being confusing... no thanks, I already ate.
Every so often, the planets align, the wind is at my back, and the lights line up so I get to work in 35 minutes or less. That doesn't mean I do it consistently. Tornado Tom is no better.

time trial like a scalded cat
How does a scalded cat time trial? Do you have to scald the cat or does the cat come pre-scalded?
I think I like this expression...is it a Leggitt-ism?
