What we're seeing here, in a sense, is the growing -- the birth pangs of a new Middle East. The important thing is to realize we are about to enter into a very critical six months. I think they're in the last throes, if you will, of the insurgency.

Yeah, nothing but a bunch of dead enders.
Get out now. Iraq is not worthanother drop of blood.ours or theirs. Iran is just loving watching us twist in the wind over there. they know that they can do whatever they want nuke wise and we can't do a damn thing about it with that many Americans at such close range. we can't even let the Israelis hit them. by being tied up in Iraq we have set up Iran as the next prominant power in the mid-east, and believe you me, they will be far worse than Saddam. just listen to that nutjobs vitriolic hate speech about Israel. oh yeah the rest of the world will really love us when we are the only ones to stand up for Israel.

iran's president is a nut job, but he's also very smart. an iranian friend of mine thinks (as do many of her friends back home) that he's trying to push america, and the world, into economic sanctions so that he can blame their poor domestic economy on international affairs; thus, he secures his political position in the longterm by creating a short-term security issue. sounds like a familiar american tactic. distract the voting public with international issues to take their minds off the problems at home.
back to the author's post, though, cuz I have a question for smithers. what's your view of capital punishment?
